Where has this team been???

That's basketball. :) Seriously, I think the team just decided to go out work hard and play their game. While Illinois is not a top team I think they are better than their recored indicates. We shot well from beyond the arc and the bench was strong tonight. Great win tonight Hawkeyes!

Gonzaga, the #1 team in the country, only scored 47 in a loss recently... agree that stuff happens. People are too hyperbolic.

I don’t get it. How can you play so crappy against Rutgers during senior day and blow a big lead against Nebraska to come back and blow out Illinois???

It was the Twitter ban!!

Rutgers I’ll give you but the Nebraska loss was as fluky of a loss as our Northwestern win. There was no collapse or choke when you hit 9 of 10 FTs in the last minute and have only 1 TO (jump ball). Nebraska had multiple prayers answered.

Nebraska loss does not look so bad now?Could it be Fran’s presence on the sideline? Not saying we up his buyout; however the last two games have been a stark contrast to the two coached by the wax figures.

It was good to see the Hawks smiling during pre-game as well. Guys looked loose and the team seemed to be enjoying basketball again.

Let’s go get MU!

Focused Coaching by Staff cannot hurt. Preparing Team or on Same page. Win tonite.Hawk Players Tough.

Might have something to do with Illinois defense.

Yeah, not trying to take away form the Hawks win but when Illinois plays defense like Iowa has the last previous 4 games it tends to make a offense seem like they’re clicking.. granted Iowa knocked down those 3’s but how many were contested by Illinois?? Not many, Illinois D was BAD! It was worse than Iowa’s has been down the stretch and that’s pretty awful. But I do hope Iowa can build off the win and get rolling cuz Michigan ain’t Illinois.

But to counteract that sort of defense you have to move the ball and move without the ball. The Hawks did that and got the results. The effort was there, the intensity was there, ball movement and execution. Just looked like a different team, which was great!

This! I didn’t think Illinois defense was bad.. they were over playing the passing lanes with athleticism and Iowa was able to move the ball and not play sloppy. With as sloppy as Iowa has looked at times the last few weeks, why would Illinois not do this? Similar to the buckets Iowa gives up scrambling out of their press. Hawks did their job and I had confidence in every single player tonight.. and they had confidence in themselves! It was fun to watch and I got to stay up past my bedtime! Go Hawks!

I think it a chance for a fresh start. It seemed like they had a hard time getting up for some of the games but now we are playing keeps. Win or go home.

Maybe this team (and some of Frans past teams) get too complacent when they’re ‘locks’ late in the season. Shouldn’t be that way but maybe focus and intensity diminish.

Maybe resetting the season into a ‘tournament setting’ was a fresh start of sorts.

Who knows. All I know, I feel a whole lot better just seeing them win, seeing that they are still capable. The last 4 games prior, had me worried they forgot how to win.

Anyone hear how fran didnt take the team to the United Center yesterday for shoot around. It was at 9am and said it was too short and too early.

Good move, were able to use DePaul’s gym and shoot around.

The team looked like the team that beat Mich in early Feb. The only negative was some of the sloppy ball handling vs pressure. Need to pass and not dribble through it. But they were moving and looked good.

Also Tyler Cook posted up and went to work. He needs to stay below the 3pt line at all times.

FG 51%
3pt 52%
FT 82%
It's amazing what having your shots fall will do for a team.

It will be interesting to see how tonight goes. Michigan doesn't play the mugging, refs won't call 30 fouls on us, defense that kills us. So if our shots are falling again tonight we should have a good shot.

Word on the street is that the boys went on a spiritual journey together between Sunday and Thursday.

Got to give McCaffery and the staff some credit. I thought in the pregame, the team looked about as loose as I've seen them all year. The players looked like they were having fun and ready to kick some butt. Hope they come out the same way tonight.

Glad the boys got out of their funk. They played great last night! Hopefully they have a “nothing to lose” attitude and just have fun tonight.

As great as it was last night, we should be realistic about our team. We have limitations that are exposed when our opponent plays physical or has superior athleticism or some combination of both that makes us uncomfortable. If our shots are not falling as a result we don’t know what to do and our defensive intensity wanes.
