I'm wondering which coach put together the game plan for Villanova. How involved is Fran? I hope they reevaluate post-season game planning because clearly it's flawed.

Losing to a 12 seeded bad IL team in BIG tournament and 2 blowout losses in back to back NCAAs is embarrassing and horrible for the program.

I love Fran but he's got to do a top to bottom evaluation of the program like Ferentz.

As others have stated, I am really trying to flush this past season and focus on the future. So far I am two minutes into this experiment. I don't know what game plan you can create that can account for 4-5 missed layups and letting guys calmly dribble up to the 3 point line for uncontested 3's. Nova is a really good team and they were firing on all cylinders. Nova at 65% and Iowa playing their best game possible still nets a Nova win by 10-15.

I do agree that Fran needs to take stock of his staff and determine if a spot can be upgraded with (as others have mentioned) a guy like Dean Oliver who has history with the program.

layups,,, i agree. But the lack of defensive intensity and how to guard ARE coachable things.

I agree with you, but it's like deciding which finger to cut off, then which hand, then which foot. If we press them on the perimeter, they blow by us for layups and dunks. If we pack it in, they hit 3's and rebound over us. Coaching position defense works when you are ~ equal in talent to your opponent. It has little impact when the opponent has a match up advantage at every position.

I dunno, but watching the game, either they were great or we have a serious problem on both sides of the ball.

Watching these games, it just seems like we have to work SO hard to stop other teams, then work just as hard to score ourselves.

Why does it seem to hard, most games?

That's what i loved about the little run we were on early in the season, for once, it looked like WE were that team!

Should have figured it wouldn't last. Ho hum.

We seemed to have more balanced scoring during 'good' Iowa basketball. Clemmons, Gesell and Woodbury were getting 6-10 ppg (more on a few occasions) and the bench was contributing consistently. It seemed like the more the offense centered on Uthoff and Jok, the less others even looked for shots. I don't know if they were being unselfish or if Fran was pushing Jok and Uthoff to shoot more. Factor in teams adjusting post-Maryland and you are right, it looked like we needed a guy to fall down or a busted assignment to get an open look in the second half of the season.
