Pretty much 95% of Iowa fans don't give a rip about wrestling.
At least the football team didn't quit. This bball team quit 6 weeks ago.
I have to admit ... I simply turned all of them off. I get too emotionally wrapped up when I watch and it's clear in the cases of the Rose Bowl and today's game... We simply weren't ready ... And we got out coached and ... Beat by better teams... As for the wrestlers... Fifth place overall finish is unacceptable (when it comes to Iowa wrestling)... But we did have 3 finalists ...
Yeah, we've built quite a reputation here in Ioway for our performances with the whole country watching. Get ready for some more farmer jokes.
I watched Lute lose to Toledo, Idaho State and Wichita State calling a TO he didn't have, so no. I've watched a Tom Davis team give up 51 points by Lafester Rhodes. We've seen Alford lose to NW Louisiana State. The list of Iowa embarrassments is long indeed.
My wife is so pissed she says we are moving to Michigan. She would kill Fran right now. I'm so drunk she's turning me on.

That aside, most Iowans and most Iowa fans have no idea what happened to the wrestling team this weekend. No one cares.

It's really not that hard to grasp. You take 10 Iowa fans off the street on any given winter day. You ask them how the Iowa wrestling team did that day. Easily 9 out of 10 will have no clue.

The Rose Bowl didn't really bother me. If we played that game 20 different times, at varying points in the season, we would get smoked every single time. They were just that much better than we were.
If we had played Villanova at any point in December or January, we probably win by double digits. The final score was not indicative of our ability level, and they are not as good, relative to the rest of the country, as Stanford was in football.

I've lived my entire life in Iowa City (35 years) and have been to hundreds of Iowa athletic events and am surrounded by Hawk fans every single day. I have literally never had one single conversation about wrestling outside of my one particular friend who is obsessed with the sport.
Those people were mostly there for a football game (I know I was, and I attended both) and our "nation leading" dual attendance is like what, 6,000 per meet?
Chick basketball draws that much at most schools.
Wrestling is a stupid sport? Probably cause you were too weak or flat out sucked at it. A lot of people don't have the mental fortitude to even try it. Don't knock it if you can't do it.

This. The basketball team was done after the PSU loss. The Iowa football team was undefeated and was seconds from beating MSU. The Rose Bowl stung bad.
at least the football team has a lasting memorable accomplishment, an undefeated regular season. That is their legacy despite the Stanford loss.

I've a Hawk fan for over 50 year and have also attended hundreds of Iowa Football & Basketball games home & away. But I have never once attended a wrestling meet before the one last November at Kinnick out of curiousty. Meh...it was a spectical and all but otherwise was boring. I'll keep on attending Iowa Women's BB and Softball though.

The 5th place finish is a bit deceiving though, because Stoll would've scored some points had he not gotten hurt late in the season. There also wasn't a whole lot of separation between 5th and 2nd.
You don't really understand. The female athletes can occasionally provide some eye candy when the action on the field or court gets boring.
We all understand how watching sweaty dudes is more your cup of tea.
