With the news of Fran being fired, how does that impact the current players and recruits? I don't have enough info to know who is really close to Fran from a player perspective but I'm sure others do.

Speculation on which players stay and which leave Iowa?

I don’t even know what the latest is right now!

Haven’t been able to follow all this closely today.

I think the current situation is everyone knows Fran is gone, but it hasn’t been officially announced yet. Correct??

Hopefully, Dix, Freeman and Harding stay at Iowa City.
Freeman and Harding are a package deal as they were
team mates in high school. Wherever Freeman goes, then
Harding will follow.

Have bad news for you Lute. A friend’s son played with one of the 3 you mentioned and is still boys with him. He said Freeman has standing offers for 7 figures per year from other schools and that all 3 are gone. Don’t know exactly how true that is, just what I was told.

Depends on the hire, if either DaVries or McCollum then I think you keep a good portion as I assume that if Davries is the choice Matt Gatens will join his staff as he was when at Drake. The bigger question is of the incoming players how many will stay but that will be up to the new coach if he wants them or bring others with him because wherever the new coach comes from those players can also follow him to Iowa. If they were all smart they would all enter the portal to see what's out there for them financially and yet still stay at Iowa if they want.

Freeman and Dix will get paid so they will surely leave.

Harding probably go MAC.

I’m sure Freeman is gone. The rest I think will probably wait to see who is hired and what kind of $ is on the table. I find it hard to believe the elite schools will agree to take Harding.

Agreed. Plus, to be honest, it would probably be mutually beneficial to their individual growth and development for Harding and Freeman to part ways.

It makes sense that Freeman would get $1 million plus because he put up pretty good offensive numbers. Rebounding/defense went down a lot . Wouldn't be surprising if a Duke or Kansas would want him. If that finger injury was playable--like with a splint and he quit, then I think that is a demerit point for quitting on your team.

Harding might want to follow Freeman....teams of caliber to pay Freeman won't want Harding.

Dix is Iowa kid but if his Mom is I'll and he needs to move closer to home, I just wish him well.

Iowa should sign Pryce and he won't be a high NIL dollar guy.

The African born guys Traore, Tadjo, Dimbele depending on their visa situation might be "free" because they can't earn money into USA without right visa type.

Exciting times.

IF it’s true that some Iowa players were not happy that Freeman decided to be done for the year and get the finger surgery… then it’s probably best he not come back.

IF it’s true.
He was looking at possible long term damage, why would they he unset

Heard Freeman was probably gone even before he opted for surgery. I imagine him and Harding are a package deal, but we'll see. Dix would also garner a lot of interest on the NIL market. Not sure what kind of interest the rest of the potentially returning roster would garner, but I'd guess 50% or greater turnover.

What might make a difference is whether or not any assistants stay.

Was it Spurlock or Eldridge that was said to have been impactful with our latest recruiting class?

And then there's Matt Gatens. "Mr. Hawkeye." What will be his future?

Anyone who gives Freeman 7 figures will have a bad case of buyers remorse. A good but certainly not great college player.

If it is McCollum, I think the only Drake starter with eligibility left is Stirtz. I would hope that whoever is hired would view tapes and have a conversation with all of the players as to whether they wish to continue at Iowa or seek greener pastures. Some will be told their future is elsewhere. I really hope we can keep Koch and Pryce. I also think Traore and Tadjo may develop into solid contributors with the right tutelage.

Lots of people have reported the same thing.

Another poster indicated that Dix has had some personal stuff going on this year as well that could take him closer to home (Creighton). After the Rutgers game, Payton singled Dix out and said something to the effect of “he’s been through alot this year”.

But almost complete roster turnover after a coaching change is par for the course in this era of college athletics

I think the key for guys staying is a great hire and fast......meaning...we are going to be a winner in the B10 and on a national level. Back to being a top 20 team and going into every game with REAL hope we can/will win.

Yes, I think hiring a new coach increases the chances of player retention. The only ones with Man-love for Fran are some of the posters on this board that are going through a greiving stage.

The player's are PRO's/mercenaries and they will go into the best situation for NIL and playing time and to be on winning team. Loyalty to Iowa and Fran are likely low on the totem pole for all them, except for Pryce and Dix. The NIL situation can only improve with Fran gone and I would say the chances of Winning also improve with new guy vs staying the course on stale and declining situation.
