I think we will see very little outside zone (stretch) plays against Whisky. Their unblocked backside LB's are taught to fly VERY flat behind the LOS and almost always get to our RB before he can get up a hole.

Like OSU, Whisky front 7 is based on speed. They only play 2 'true' down lineman most of the time, and if you look at last years film, when we ran power straight ahead our interior lineman where driving them 5+ yds. off the ball, but GD didn't stay with it much (you talk about bad play calling, omg). I believe we will run a lot of 'power' (inc. ISO w/FB) and 'gap' scheme again, and I believe we will see the little 'counter' play that Butler had the long run on (OL zone steps right, FB goes left and cuts down backside end/backer and RB 'counters' away from flow). It sets up really well against Whiskey's scheme and aggressive pursuit. I also think we will see some 'pin and pull' to get Wadley on the edge (everyone on playside [wr's and all] block down and pull both guards).

If we can establish the 'power' game, BF whole passing scheme opens up. And boy has there been a HUGE improvement in that scheme and coaching this year. I could hardly stand to watch the replay of last years game and the route combinations GD had, and receivers having no idea what to do if CJ broke the pocket (one specific play had CJ scrambling and we had two receivers standing STATIONARY one yard away from each at the goal line. I think it will be a big game for Easley with all the attention the TE's are going to get and if they are going to 'key' on the TE's there will be plenty of shots down the field available...hopefully we'll actually connect on a couple to the WR's.

Whiskey doesn't necessarily 'blitz' that much, they just have different 'rush' packages where they send different backers from different spots to keep the O off balance and try to confuse the QB. Stanley will have to identify where they are coming from in a hurry and throw to where they came from. He is getting a lot better at that and it was essential in why he was getting the ball out so fast last week against OSU. Go Hawks.

Games (especially Iowa's) are usually decided in the trenches, and if the weather is as bad as it could be (cold with snow or freezing drizzle, etc.) this game is going be even more so IMO.

Please edit your initial post. It looks like there's some good info in there but it's IMPOSSIBLE to read. Use some paragraphs.

Seriously, trying to help and not trying to be a dick.

A lot of mid range throws to the TE's, Matt V and Easley. Make the LB's cover the TE's and protect the middle of the field. Give room for Wadley to work his magic. Stanley is far too accurate on his mid-range throws to not go in with the same game plan as Ohio St. This Wisconsin D looks good on paper but they have holes. The worst thing KF can do is go into this game wanting to play the same old smash mouth football we typically play against Wisconsin. Thats not our offense this year. We do that and we lose field position and lose the game.

You're way smarter than me Muskie but I was thinking the same on power runs. Daniels and Welsh clear the NG and you slam the FB in that hole for Butler or Young. Should be some 5 yard gains there.

In my limited knowledge, I would think going up vs a 3-4 scheme, we should go right at them, using our advantage in weight and strength. Going horizontally just lets them use their speed to their advantage.

I don't believe that to be accurate. You are considering outside zone as 'smashmouth' and it isn't. Power (straight ahead) 'smashmouth' is exactly what they need to run against these guys...and will. Watch.

They had success doing that last year, but didn't stay with it.

My hunch is they're going to try to make our WR's beat them by loading up on Iowa's TE's and RB's.
I'm good with that. I think our WR's can/will beat them all day. I have total confidence in them getting open and making plays.

i honestly think they are gonna try and stack the box against us like every team except Ohio State..... we didn’t do one screen pass to any of our WR’s or RBs that i can remember against Ohio State

How many that are 'in the box' is totally determined by our formation and what coverage the D is playing (we've seen a lot of cover1 or cover 0). Teams don't just put people 'in the box', lol. I've tried to explain this to you folks numerous times but 'fans' on here aren't interested in learning anything, they just like to repeat 'catch phrases' (having no idea what they mean) that they 'think' make them sound like they are 'knowledgeable'. I'd love to do a 'chalk talk' with some of you so maybe you would understand better. They only way to get people 'out of the box' is to play more spread formations and make the defense get out of cover0 by beating man coverage. To go back to your first comment that teams 'stack the box', do you think that if we had 4 WR's on the field with just a RB the other team would put 8 or 9 'in the box' and leave 1 or 2 of our receivers 'uncovered'? LOL. If we have 2 TE's, a FB and a RB of course the defense is going to have 8 or 9 (or maybe even 10) in the box because our offense has 10 of their people 'in the box'. What, do you think the D is going to have people widen, back off and defend 'air'? For the last time, how many the D puts in the box is totally determined by our formation and if they think they can play man coverage with no safety(s) over the top (deep help for the CB's). THEY ONLY WAY TO GET PEOPLE OUT OF THE BOX IS TO SPREAD OUR FORMATIONS (No FB, 1 or 0 TE's or split the TE out, 4 WR'S, etc.) OR CONSISTENTLY BEAT MAN COVERAGE VERTICALLY FORCING THE DEFENSE TO TAKE ONE OR BOTH OF THE SAFETIES OUT OF THE BOX TO GIVE DEEP HELP. Don't listen to announcers because even if they know what the heck they are talking about (which most don't) they like to use buzz words and catch phrases to fill idle time between plays.

I believe you have some knowledge of the game but need to understand that most the people on this board are fans not Coaches, players or Refs.
Fans just enjoy the game and like to talk about what they see I'm sure you talk about things outside of football that people have much more knowledge than you have and people don't keep telling you how silly you sound.

My whisky game plan us as follows.
Start with a Jameson to get the game going. Keep drinking it as long as we are successful.
If the Jameson isn't working for the hawks I'll switch it up to a scotch.
Once we beat Bucky it'll be bourbon all night!

Muskie is a self-absorbed tool box who consistently tells “us” how smart he is. Thanks again bud. Really appreciate your lessons. Now go FY.
