I think we will see very little outside zone (stretch) plays against Whisky. Their unblocked backside LB's are taught to fly VERY flat behind the LOS and almost always get to our RB before he can get up a hole.
Like OSU, Whisky front 7 is based on speed. They only play 2 'true' down lineman most of the time, and if you look at last years film, when we ran power straight ahead our interior lineman where driving them 5+ yds. off the ball, but GD didn't stay with it much (you talk about bad play calling, omg). I believe we will run a lot of 'power' (inc. ISO w/FB) and 'gap' scheme again, and I believe we will see the little 'counter' play that Butler had the long run on (OL zone steps right, FB goes left and cuts down backside end/backer and RB 'counters' away from flow). It sets up really well against Whiskey's scheme and aggressive pursuit. I also think we will see some 'pin and pull' to get Wadley on the edge (everyone on playside [wr's and all] block down and pull both guards).
If we can establish the 'power' game, BF whole passing scheme opens up. And boy has there been a HUGE improvement in that scheme and coaching this year. I could hardly stand to watch the replay of last years game and the route combinations GD had, and receivers having no idea what to do if CJ broke the pocket (one specific play had CJ scrambling and we had two receivers standing STATIONARY one yard away from each at the goal line. I think it will be a big game for Easley with all the attention the TE's are going to get and if they are going to 'key' on the TE's there will be plenty of shots down the field available...hopefully we'll actually connect on a couple to the WR's.
Whiskey doesn't necessarily 'blitz' that much, they just have different 'rush' packages where they send different backers from different spots to keep the O off balance and try to confuse the QB. Stanley will have to identify where they are coming from in a hurry and throw to where they came from. He is getting a lot better at that and it was essential in why he was getting the ball out so fast last week against OSU. Go Hawks.
