Who’s been to a game at Penn State?

I’ll have the chance to go to the Penn State game but tickets are already approaching $100 for high row high section seats. Has anyone gone before and sat in the EndZone sections? Good seats or just pay the crazy prices for sideline seats?

I’ve never been to an away game. Is there a place to buy Iowa specific tickets like you would for a home game through the college? Would be good to sit where the other Iowa fans are.

I have been there a few times and bought tickets thru the U, outside the stadium, and online thru services. Get on their website to find out where the visiting team sections are (in case they have changed).I would then buy online or outside gameday. Always tickets available and haven't had a problem with fans. Endzone seats are ok, to me the stadium is big, nothing great. Hard to get to and from though. 2 lane roads....

Agree with the poster who said the University of Iowa tickets are bad. They are really terrible.
Yes upper end zone corner.. not good. Stadium is big but cheap, high school type bleachers imo. Awesome pre game tailgating.. out there in the country!!

Been to two games there. They have the friendliest, most gracious fans in the B1G.

Glad to hear that because I will be taking my boys. I’ve heard Philly fans are some of the worst possible so I’ve always skipped Eagles games. Was hoping it wasn’t the same for College Games.

Went to the game back in early 80’s with an ex-roommate and his now ex- wife and her family (sorry no pic of ex-wife as I don’t have an extra wide angle lens). Loved the game especially when the 0-3 Joe chant started.

I was at that game KuwaitHawk. Ronnie Harmon was a very good WR and Long made some nice throws to him. Best tailgating I've ever seen, and I've been to most of the Big Ten and a couple of Big 12 stadiums.

That was when PsU was an independent team. Didn’t tailgate with my friend’s outlaws, but with the Hawkeye fans next to us. The outlaws had some nasty sandwiches and the Hawks had some kick ass burgers. It was a fun 2-hour trip back to their home. Even though my friend was from Texas, he didn’t like PsU. He and I were very happy.

Went to the 6-4 game a while back. The stadium is amazing but no, the Iowa seats in the end zone are terrible. We loved our trip to State College.
We went in 2016 when the Hawks got drilled. The game was bad, and the upper deck endzone seats were the worst . It felt like you were a mile from the field. The atmosphere was very impressive though, and the Penn State fans were the most friendly bunch of opposing fans I have ever encountered. It is beautiful country out there and except for the game , it was a great trip.

College and pro football fans are largely different groups...not much overlap. The rock heads who make up much of the Eagle's fan base couldn't spell State College, much less go there. Central Penn is also quite different from Urban Philly.

Very true. I've been to numerous Chicago Bears games and a couple of Detroit Lions games. The fans are very different from the people in Iowa City, East Lansing, Lincoln, Ann Arbor, etc.

I much prefer a college game day. It is more fun to me, I am more comfortable. NFL games are fun too but it's like the fans are in the Roman Coliseum and waiting for the Christians to be thrown to the lions.

Nothing wrong if you prefer NFL game experiences. I guess I'm saying that the two are very different, and when a college team copies from the NFL to make fans happy it's not always a good thing.

I've been to a college game and NFL game on a back to back Saturday/Sunday weekend 3 times. Great time, but very different experiences.

I'll take college football Saturdays.

World’s apart! Not in the same universe so not a valid comparison/analogy!
Eagles fans are rough...always have been.

I went to the game in 1994 (I think) when PSU kicked the piss out of the Hawks, 61 - 21. They did us a favor. They could've scored 100 on us that day.

Like every Saturday there, it rained, but it is a great atmosphere for college football. I hope Penn State loses the rest of its games for the remainder of time, unless it somehow benefits Iowa.

“High school type bleachers” decribes Kinnick as well. And almost every other college football stadium.

I was there as well with a work colleague who lived in SC. Fantastic atmosphere, nice people, great time.
And that is still one of the most exciting games I've ever seen. KF giving up a safety intentionally was brass cajones if there ever were.

I can agree with those who have said good things about their fans. Went to the butt kicking 2 years ago. Before the game everyone invited us into their tailgates and offered us food and beer. Got so drunk with them before the game almost didn’t make the walk over to the stadium. After they killed us the bouncers at the bar even said we didn’t have to pay the cover charge. Didn’t buy a drink from noon that day to midnight that night. A lot of good people.

In this photo, visitor's seating is in the end zone upper deck, the two sections to the right. Personally I like to sit as high as possible if I'm in an end zone to be able to see the action at the other end of the field. Same for sideline seats, the higher the better for seeing action at both end of the field. Just bring your binoculars.

This is looking toward the north end zone with the east stands on your right. Although the game is late October, it can be to be very hot that time of year. If its an early afternoon game and you're sitting in the visitor seats or in the east stands, bring your sunscreen because the sun will be on you for most of the game.

I've been there twice. Probably one of my favorite away game site. Parking is easy, tailgate is all right there on their soccer/intramural fields. Fans are great except still in denial about their legend being involved at all in the scandal. Last game was a night game. Awesome fan base and music gets you pumped! Only complaint is it takes forever to get out of their lots.

Amazing how different the stadium looks than it did in the 70's and early-80's with the additions. I believe the place only sat 60-65K back in the 70's.

I've been three times: 2002 OT win with Joe Pa chasing down the refs at the end. PSU scored 22 points in the last 8 minutes of regulation to send it to overtime. Since then I've never been able to relax in the 4th quarter - no matter how big an Iowa lead. 2009 AC blocked punt, white out, rain. My shoes were still wet when I got home on Sunday, but it was worth it. 2011 sucked in every way possible. Including a drunken Hawk fan that puked in our section before kickoff. Great fans, cool college town and humungous venue. I've been to every B1G town and stadium to see the Hawks. State College/Beaver might not be the best, but definitely top three - not counting Kinnick, of course.

Will you rank them in loudness? Always fun to see.

I was there in 2002 when Iowa won in OT. Watched JoePa "sprint" after the refs to complain about the catch out of bounds. He may have been out of bounds but there was a play in the second quarter I believe where the Hawks forced a fumble and returned it for a touchdown but the refs either whistled the ballcarrier down or had his forward momentom stopped. Pretty sure it was fumble. It goes both ways.

Anyhoo, first the half was quiet. The 4th Quarter...whoa...it got loud. I am pretty sure the place was shaking when they tied it up. I remember thinking to myself after Antwan Allan tackled their big tight end out in the flat on a crucial third down late..."man, that was an amazing tackle all things considered." Talk about a possible game saving tackle of a small DB on a big TE. Great game.
