Visiting Big Ten stadiums I would have to say Penn State and Nebraska are great trips. Fans at both are very welcoming and friendly, also football knowledgeable. PSU has the best tailgating scene. Michigan is right up there too for good host fans.

I have heard horror stories about Wisconsin and Ohio State but never been there. Good for me I guess. Minnesota doesn't like us at all but our numbers are usually close to theirs in Gopher Stadium. Northwestern seriously doesn't like Iowa, again see Minnesota. Illinois doesn't care for us, probably some leftover butthurt from the Deon Thomas recruitment in the 1980s. There was some real animosity from Illinois back then that lasted for many years. Michigan State fans act like you are from the farm, never mind that there is nothing wrong with that and that they have an ag school and UI doesn't.

Purdue fans are fine. Never been to Indiana but there must be IU football fans somewhere outside of the stadium.

Had my worst experiences in Lincoln and Minneapolis. Had my best experiences in Madison and Champaign. Purdue was the most heated because of our intense rivalry with them ;)

Nicest fans at the game are Nebraska. Oddly enough they are by far the worst on the Internet. I've been many games in Lincoln and they were always friendly and nice. This site seems to bring over mostly the douche bag Internet tough guy Nebraska fans.

I've never had a bad personal experience with a Nebraska fan, but the crazies on the message boards are the worst.

Ohio State fans are entitled assholes in person and on the 'net

The Wisconsin fans I've come across weren't bad at all. All they wanted to talk about was the Green Bay Packers. They didn't give a lick about the Badgers compared to the pack.

Maybe this is just my experience... All of the bad Nebraska fans I've come across weren't even from Nebraska. They're were from Western Iowa, Missouri, and South Dakota and they jumped on the bandwagon in the 80's and never jumped off. It's seriously like two different fan bases that root for the same team.

Lived in Madison for 7+ years. They are the worst. Not even close. OSU is arrogant but Wisky fans are asses. Love it when they lose at anything.

The best? I never really had in run in at games at Nebraska and the people seemed real nice. Many arrogant jerk husker supporters on the Internet so I will lean to Mich or PSU fans as the best.

I know the Nebraska fans are on this board the most but I would argue the worst internet fans are Penn State. Those guys are douche bags who think they're too good for the B1G.

They also defended the whole raping boys in the shower stuff too. So there is that...

During our fours years of traveling, we didn't go to Wisconsin or Illinois. Live close enough to have gone to Madison though and realize they are dick$. The only real a-holes we ran into was at Minnesota. Both times, we played less than our best football and lost. That compounded their ignorance. Everywhere else, we were treated very well. Always wearing our Hawkeye jersey and treated well. Favorite places were Memorial Stadium (Lincoln), The Big House, and Beaver Stadium.

Based on the posts ITT, there definitely is a correlation between asshole fans and successful football teams

In my limited travels within the Big Ten, my two worst experiences with fan bases, by far, have been Wisconsin and Penn State. That includes non-conference fan bases as well.

I've been to every Big 10 stadium other than Rutgers and Penn State, which we are going to both this year! Here is what I would say

Never go back, they are brutal:
Wisconsin - spit on us, provoked fights, they are the lowest form of life

Bad:
Ohio State - after they beat us, they sure talked a lot of trash. Pretty arrogant too, but they prove it on the field
Michigan State - they have a "little brother syndrome" a lot like our little brother (who I would put in this category but we are talking B1G)

Indifferent:
Minnesota - Ive heard bad stuff, but have never had problems up there
Purdue - Fans were okay, great bar scene
Northwestern - Stale atmosphere, fans are blah
Maryland - Fans still think they are in the ACC
Indiana - Nobody's there
Illinois - Champaign is a dump, but their fans were ok

Great:
Nebraska - they wanted to have a love fest with us. We went to the first game in Lincoln. I bet I'd have a different opinion now since we've given them two bloody noses over there since
Michigan - Fans were great

I hear Penn State is a riot, I can't wait to go next fall!

Indiana, got beer cans thrown at us as we left their parking lot. Seem to be more than a few rednecks there. Minnesota, Couple of their fans wanted to fight us because we cheering for the Hawks. Beer sold at the stadium may of had something to with that.

Worst(tie)Wisconsin and Minnesota

Ok-Michigan,Purdue

Awful stadiums-Illinois,Northwestern,Indiana

Fun places-Wisconsin(yeah I know but I love Madtown)NW(love Chicago)Nebraska(Lincoln is a fun town)

In my limited experience Wisconsin fans* were the worst and Nebraska were probably the best.

*but we shouldn't let a few bad apples define a fanbase

I really don't have a best or worst because all 14 B1G schools have their share of complete buttface's and really nice fans. But, it looks to me like Wisconsin is an overwhelming consensus on this board for a$$holes of the universe, with nobody else even close. Maybe we should have a conference trophy for that. At least Bucky would have one trophy in their trophy case, even in really bad years.

Does that mean we get the "nice guy" conference trophy? Would be nice to have one in ours also.

My experience having been to several stadiums and having spoke to others who have as well, is if a team is a rival their fans suck. If a team wins a lot, their fans suck. All teams have bad fans, but they are usually in the minority. If you are unfortunate enough to run into a bad fan, it can influence your opinion of the entire fan base.

Worst that I've been to Michigan St. Fans were awful before and during the whole game. Was there in 09' and will never forget when Colin Sandeman got a vicious hit where he was down and not moving. Fans booing cause of the flag (which I'll give a little break) but then they break into their idiotic Go Green, Go White chant and another one while he was down. Be like Iowa fans doing the I-O-W-A chant when another player just suffered what could have been a serious injury. So sweet watching them run out after the McNutt catch.

Best have to be Michigan. Great time and very nice to our group all weekend at bars, tailgating and very friendly during the game. Indiana fans were actually same this year as well. Ton of them we talked to tailgating were great but its a shame none of them made it into the game.

I encourage anyone who hasn't been to downtown Champaign or Campustown in the last few years to visit; not sure what you're looking for if you still think it's a "dump" (campus is pretty, downtown has a great setup, Campustown is cool...?). I bring my Iowa buddies down most years, and they love it. Doesn't have to be Iowa City to you to avoid being a dump!

Worst- Kansas State/Colorado- Goodness I was shocked how much they hated Nebraska.

Honorable Mention: Iowa State- Goodness they hated Nebraska too.

Best: Iowa

You know you're a rival when you have the trolls on your mb from an opposing team.

But generally Iowans and Nebraskans are very similar.
