Who wants ISU to beat TCU?

Yay. 1. Nothing wrong with pressure from Ames in IC every decade or so. 2. Fast success means the faster Campbell moves on (no matter what he says)

ISU success means more competition for in-state recruits, so I definitely do not want ISU to beat TCU. In fact all the discussion about how ISU is going to win the BIG12 is nauseating, and since a beat down by TCU would be the end of that, I sincerely hope it gets ugly for them.

We could all root for ISU if we had a coaching staff that could recruit well regardless of competition. As of now, Iowa loses a lot of battles to other B10 schools. I suppose we might have to add ISU to the list of schools that beat out Iowa for the best players. I don't think it matters whether ISU wins or not. Campbell has shown he can put together a good team really quickly even using the retreads from the last coach. Hell, their backup QB is much, much better than Iowa's starter. At this point, I'm just hoping Iowa can somehow beat Minnesota at home and that someone on the team can field a punt.

No. Iowa is a small population state with limited resources. Disband isu and send those resources to “the university of Iowa”.

All for ISU winning and winning out. More heat on King Kirk, which he won't feel or acknowledge. Remember, we are Iowa and here it takes years for guys to learn the offense. Somehow Campbell recruited guys capable of grasping their offense in much less time. Far from a Clown fan, but look at their offense compared to ours. Campbell realizes you have to outscore the other team to win. Kirk wants to execute more efficiently than the opponent and hope they lose the game. Their passing game puts ours to shame and with a 2nd or 3rd string QB. I know, we are 1 year away from turning the corner in the offense, just give Brian time to lean the play book.

^^^^^^^^^Amen!

Yes, competition is good and it helps our strength of schedule with ISU being good. All the pundits can't say our non con is garbage if ISU is actually decent to good. I hope it lights a fire in IC under all those coaches to be more motivated in everything they do. Too much arrogance from a certain coach in IC if you ask me and he really hasn't done anything to prove himself.

Will it hurt with recruiting? It could but it's not like Iowa is consistently in the top 30 for recruits. Case in point, Iowa is # 64 right now, one spot below Kansas. Kansas! ISU is # 53. I know it is still early in the recruiting process but KF was all for the early signing period so it will be interesting to see who will sign early and who will sign at the standard time table.

Got a friend whose wife is bowing out due to the cold. Her ticket has my name on it if I choose to break out the long johns and schnapps.

Could be interesting. IMO TCU will win but its at Ames and frogs tend to get sluggish in the cold.

Bingo. There has never been a period of time when both programs are good.

Plus they are Iowa’s rival. Why would anyone cheer for their rival?

Go Frogs
I was thinking what if ISU is Iowa's best win? All I could come up with was "blech".

Yea or nay

I say yea

I grew up in the shadow of an Iowa rival that actually wins on a national stage: conference championships, a national championship, countless final fours. In football, Iowa even played them in the ‘15 BTCG. Now, that’s a team I’ll never root for because they are in direct competition with Iowa.

But Iowa State?!? Who cares if they have a good season? They’re historically awful and irrelevant. I stop paying attention to them after September, and you all should too.

The "Campbell will be gone" thing is wayyy over hyped. 3-9 year one, One good year at 8-4 or 9-3 isn't going to have multiple ADs ringing his phone off the hook. Next year they're in rebuilding mode big time.. the Campbell buzz will die out.

Nay, the last thing Iowa needs is to become the second best team in the state. We have a direct interest in ISU continuing to be a bad program.

After Saturday's performance at Northwestern, what makes you think that hasn't already occurred?

I am with the fans who say Iowa State becoming more competitive might put pressure on Kirk. I emphasize might because Kirk seems pretty comfy and cozy now that he's sewn up his life-time contract. Still, since Kirk resurrected the Iowa program, ISU has never been a legitimate threat to dethrone Iowa as the premier program in the state. Now, however, with ISU showing signs of life and bringing a more entertaining brand of football to the state than the Hawks, that could be on the horizon. I'm guessing the Ferentzes have at least taken notice.

Gene Chizik won 5 games in two years before getting the Auburn offer.

The "Campbell gone" hype may very well be overplayed, but it won't be because of a lack of other suitors.

I say yea. It will make the first week of the playoff standings far more interesting. However, it doesn’t matter since TCU will crush them.

I even graduated from ISU and I never, ever cheer for ISU in any sport. I just can't do it. ISU does have a nice journalism school, however. :D

True, but he also had Auburn ties...no doubt a big part of how he ended up there.
