Don't know if there has been any buzz about eight man or nine man HS prospects, but with Coach Morgan's connections and his seemingly uncanny ability to spot talent, I'm guessing some spots will be reserved for those players. This in spite of the Hawks success with higher rated prospects. Coaches Kirk and Morgan seem to love having a few of those hard working underdogs types on the squad. My guess is that they will wait til late in the upcoming season to offer.

With sought after prospects still on the board and 5-6 remaining spots, I wouldn't expect many more offers to in-state kids. Likely walk-on or greyshirt offers.

I would also "guess" that they don't intentionally hold back schollies to find the unrecruited player. If you had 3 & 4 star recruits willing to commit, you would turn them away because you want to save a schollie for the unkown?

In the past, I would "guess" that they weren't getting the commitment from the upper rated recruits that they wanted so they went to the smaller high schools looking for the diamond in the rough recruit that had potential to be a 3 or 4 star talent .

The Hawks certainly aren't holding back offers ... however, on the same tolken, you better believe that they're still continuing to evaluate guys who they feel good about (even if they haven't offered them). If we get later into the recruiting season ... its still more than possible that the coaches might pull the trigger late on such guys. For example, both Noah Clayberg and Shaun Beyer saw their recruitments get a bit of a boost really late in the game. The Hawks are built off of those guys ... so it will be interesting to see how the coaches finish off the '17 class. However, if the class fills up early ... then all the coaches can do is either offer preferred walk-on spots OR grey-shirts.

They may be holding on to the last few scholarships to evaluate a few player's senior season. They may have some guys who score pretty similar or are maybe borderline offers that they want to see develop. Especially if a couple of those rides are tagged for specific positions.

Bazata and Ott are from Nebraska. They were from 8 player teams. Didn't see the OP mention Iowa, just hard-working underdogs. And oh, yeah who was that 9 player guy from S. Dak we had?

They are bringing in Soko for another visit and they seem interested in a large O-lineman from Iowa...drawing a blank on his name. Sorry. No idea if they are being looked at for a schollie or walk on/grayshirt.

Denver Ia-Mason Neisen, is the large Ol referenced above.
A few others- Lb,Ben Campos,Omaha's Jack Begley (LB/S). Current Northern Ilinois verbal-Ol,Cole Webster(Bettendorf).

Mason Neisen is a guy that keeps getting invited back. I think by the end of the season if anyone leaves or we have an extra opening he will get a look.

Uhhhh, you're missing my point. There simply won't be room for a mass of late additions via scholarship. Likely only space for walk ons and gray shirts.

Squirtle? Sorry, couldn't resist. Carry on.

Why is this game fun for anybody over the age of 16? I remember collecting the cards for a couple weeks back in middle school, but I have no idea why this game is all of a sudden fun for people in their 2Os and 30s. What am I missing?

I don't know, never played it. But it's pretty hard to avoid on the news and such. Just having fun.

I could be wrong, but didn't Chad Greenway play 9 player?

You're missing the point that not all small school 8 player guys are from Iowa, and yes to the other poster, Greenway played 9 player football. How'd
he turn out?

And look up Veryl Switzer, he played 6 player ball, granted quite a while ago. And not for Iowa.

You've lost me. I understand Iowa has had great success with players who didn't play 11 man football.

What is the point that you are trying to make? That Iowa should just offer the best 2-3 8 or 9-man players (or players from smaller schools) that are on their board right now, regardless of where the staff has these guys rated? Iowa has done a great job of unearthing the diamonds in the rough, and will continue to do so. But there's a reason Iowa has been focusing a lot of time and attention on the likes of Eno Benjamin, Epanesa, Chevin Calloway and the like. They are elite-level talents who have the chance to come in and help Iowa immediately. And with development and some fortune, turn out to be great college players. They are the types of talents we usually see on Ohio State or Oklahoma or name your other blue blood. There is no guarantee that any of those 3 will be great, but the stats on 4 and 5-star players nationally tells us they have a lot better odds of being good college players than 2 stars do. Yes, Iowa has done a great job of unearthing and developing underrated guys (Sanders, Clark, Yanda, Greenway, and on and on and on). But wouldn't you like to find out how KF and staff could do if they started out with closer to equal talent as OSU or Michigan? I would.

As others said, Iowa was tracking Duwa closely but once the Minnesota offer came for him it forced Iowa's hand. They liked him enough that they offered him.

No, the OP wondered if Iowa was on to any "hidden gem" players such as 8 players guys. --he didn't mention Iowa players at all. And you immediately replied as if he were only talking about state of Iowa kids. So I pointed out that "hidden gems" didn't always come from Iowa schools and pointed out at least two came from Nebraska. Not so hard to figure out.

Why is every one skipping over Kirkpatrick the 2nd to commit after Harris is from a small town. Iowa was very quick to offer, so when he camped Iowa must have saw something they liked a lot. He was not a fall back offer. He was a target.
