Why all this fury over someone being racist?

How so? While Hispanic is not a race, but an ethnicity. We as a society identify discrimination against a Hispanic group as "racism". How is it any different when one Hispanic ethnicity discriminates against another one. Is is any different for different Asian ethnicities, or middle eastern ones?
