Why are non believers so vile and vulgar...

I answered this in another thread some time ago. We don't...at least most of us don't. 20% of the population is agnostic or atheist, yet only a few engage in the conduct you mention. You should appreciate the fact that most of us are happy to let you believe as you will and never say anything about it. Even when we know you're wrong.;)

At least the first sentence is correct. Its almost exclusively criticism from the left. I believe they see Christianity as a threat to their religion(big Government)

You're correct that as the GOP has adopted the evangelicals, atheists have moved to the left. When you want to run a government based on God above all, absolutely I'll vote against that every time. That why a guy like Cruz of Huckabee scare the wits out of me. They'd try to force through laws based on their religious beliefs.

when the topic of religious faith is brought up. Why do atheists spend every waking hour of their existence looking for ways to denigrate and destroy something they claim to have no interest in?
Oh, I don't know. Maybe because we get tired of theists trying to shove their religion down our throats. If you guys just minded your own business we wouldn't care, but you don't. You have to stick your nose in things where it doesn't belong like the right to marry who you want and what we should teach in science class. Seems to me that your side needs to STFU and handle snakes or whatever the hell it is you do on your weekends and leave the rest of us alone. Just saying.

This atheist takes a great deal of interest in religion. I find it's often theists who show little interest in discussions on the topic. For example I invited you to discuss the topic of conversion and you told me you didn't care.

I certainly don't spend every waking hour looking for ways to denigrate or destroy religion. I do, however, like to discuss it as I think it is an interesting topic that has many different valid viewpoints.

Just because I talk about it on HROT doesn't mean I focus on it in my personal life, either. I talk about things like women rating methods, poop, want of bees and all sorts of other things on here that I don't think about when I'm not here.

I'm an agnostic atheist. I'm interested in religion as a sociological phenomena.

I usually let my beliefs lay dormant except when someone is pushing their religious beliefs to me.

On the whole, I find fundamentalist (from any group) are far more pushy about their religion than any atheist.

I've never has an atheist tell me I shouldn't believe, but with some regularity I get someone telling me I should be a believer and try to convert me.

If I want to convert, I will do that without outside help, I'm fully capable on my own.

It is something you must explore on your own. The first step is to accept a belief in Yahweh...then accept the fact that Jesus was Yahweh divine incarnate on Earth. It is obvious you don't want to take those steps but if you ever do I will help you...

I find religion fascinating, but then again, I'm an agnostic and not an atheist. I see atheists as no different than gnostics.
Cool, I see agnostics as no different from atheists for all intents. But it's clear you don't know what a gnostic is.

By trying to write your religion into law? You might want to rethink that.
Why not? I happen to think the laws of God are much better than yours. Pretty simple since there are only 10 of them.Maybe you need to rethink that.

It's actually the step before this that give me the most trouble. I can't get myself to believe in magic.

So you want a law that we all have to worship your god?
No...that isn't even what Jesus said. I happen to believe the laws of God are good...I believe in them...I also happen to think this country would be much better off if these laws were once again a vital part of our culture...most American presidents felt the same way even the agnostic ones.

No offense, but your arguments suck in this thread.

Atheists and Anti-theists have become almost synonymous.

Unless you're Liberal, then your a closet Muslim.

You aren't a believer so I imagine they do where you are concerned. I happen to think secular laws are fine as long as you don't legislate sin. I know you will scoff at that but it has to do with the fact you don't believe.

You believe in the scientific method...to me that is "magic"...
Not to me, but I can appreciate how science might appear that way. The main difference in my mind is that science follows natural laws and is replicable. Magic is the stuff of a supernatural universe that I don't see any evidance of actually existing.

You said you wanted the 10 commandments to be law. The result of that would be it would be illegal to not worship Yahweh. Maybe that's the point of atheists, to make sure theists understand their religion. I'm just doing my job in explaining it to you. I'm kind of like a prophet.

This is what I'm going on:

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/gnostic?s=t

The definitions are kind of vague, so if I misspoke, I apologize.
The 4th definition should make your error clear. Gnostics are theists of a particular branch of Christianity that thought Jesus was a spiritual ideal, not a physical man. That this idea was so prevalent at the start of the religion opens a fascinating line of discussion.

Many of the Commandments are law...in just about every civilized culture. Atheists have managed to turn them into a separation of church and state issue and to be honest even Christians have bought into it...at this they have been extremely successful.

Do you even know the Ten Commandments?

You have a chicken and egg problem. Killing, thieving, lying etc. we're all illegal before there were commandments. In fact they were commandments in the Egyptian religion before the Hebrews edited them. But it's the religious laws that are a bad idea to implement, don't you agree?

Of course I do...

You sure? Which ones are law?

  1. You shall have no other gods before Me.
  2. You shall not make idols.
  3. You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.
  4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
  5. Honor your father and your mother.
  6. You shall not murder.
  7. You shall not commit adultery.
  8. You shall not steal.
  9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
  10. You shall not covet.
