Gate receipts... NO! Player development... are you serious! Fan enjoyment... what you tired of Christmas specials with Mariah Carey & Barry Manilow? Preparation for Big Ten teams like Michigan State, Illinois or Ohio State... of course! I really wish I could sit back tonight and watch a decent game which meant something.... ugh...

Why not, this season's trashed anyway.
Losing both Murray's after this season and having no big man that's worth a crap guarantees Iowa will not compete for any Big Ten Championship for years to come.
🥱

Unfortunately you're not too far off.

Iowa needed to be good this year but its not happening.

Playing too many guys and no focus on defense or rebounding isn't going to amount to anything.

We are not going to lose both Murrays after this season. Kris may get there but he's not there yet.

The better question is why didn't Fran recruit Trenton Massner or at least offer him a preferred walk on spot? He reminded me of Jake Kelly and AJ Green. Not great to be heading into January with PG by committee. I have been an advocate for Joe T., but something isn't clicking with his style of play and what Fran wants from a PG. Ulis appears to be a much better option.

Yup. I think one is the correct answer here. He just might be the best Iowa player we've seen in 40 years though. How unique is he? He could be the first top 10 pick since Ronnie Lester. Too bad we likely lose him after this year.

This entire board would have lost their shit if Fran recruited him. Hindsight is pretty awesome.

Not playing too many guys. However, FM puts some odd combinations on the floor at times. CM is a 5 minute a half player and no more. Rebracca is a 4, not a 5. Going to struggle on boards.

WIU came into tonight #124 NET and 10-3 overall. This is exactly the kind of "money" game they should be playing, rather than the parade of 300+ teams they played earlier. Nothing wrong with this game.

Uh, this post. If you didn't know, Western Illinois actually doesn't suck like all of our other no-name opponents.

If you want to complain (out of 358):
Longwood (173- not really complaining about them)
Kansas City (200- not as terrible)
NC Central (315)
Alabama St. (303)
Western Michigan (331)
Portland St. (330)
SE Louisiana (296)

This is the recurring non con theme. They should never have 5 games on the schedule like this. One would be OK. Two isn't good. But FIVE bottom feeders this terrible?

More games like tonight would fix Fran's scheduling issues. Instead of opponents that are likely to finish near the bottom, pick more in the 100-200 range.

IMO Fran set up an easy schedule because most of his players were in new roles. It also looks like he had his eye on more uptempo competition.

After every game we would read that he had one other offer from Northwestern State.
True. And he went there because his high school coach’s son was on their staff. Trenton is a late bloomer and is putting WIU in a position to make a run at the Summit crown. Wished UNI or Drake would have given him a serious look as well when he wanted to get closer to home. I believe he still has an extra year due to covid…SCC, NWLSU (2), WIU.

They were picked 9th/10th by the experts. Do you really think they've been a bust so far and will finish worse?
What people pick is irrelevant.

Did the experts understand Keegan is an early first rounder? No, because they don't know much of anything besides the obvious.

Fran needed to maximize the opportunity of having two players like the Murrays together and it didn't happen.

This team will not be better next year.

The experts absolutely knew Keegan was a first rounder. They predicted it in the off season.

You make it sound as if the two Murrays are equal when obviously that is not the case. We're all pulling for Kris, but he has only scored in double figures once in the last five games and seems snakebit on his shots. I hope he explodes soon, but I strongly suspect he will remain a college player next season.
But you just go ahead and live in your own little world where everything McCaffery does is wrong.

Define experts.

Show me big ten conference predictions that had Keegan factored in as a borderline lottery pick/ conference player of the year contender.

Show me conference predictions that had Kris, Perkins, Ulis or Sandfort factored at all.

Yeah Keegan was showing up on mock drafts at the end of last year. Two separate groups of people.

People who predict the conference just look at returning starters and highly rated recruits. Most of them don't know a whole lot about most of the teams.

No, im not making it sound like anything.

You are interpreting it how you want.

You go ahead and live in your own little world where you understand what's happening.

Anyone with an ounce of sense understands how good Kris would be given appropriate minutes to gain experience.

Actually, I think you give them too much credit,.. I suspect most of them don't look much beyond the name of the team and then just make a prediction based on their understanding of past performance..

Want to go back to the Lickliter years? On second thought, why don't you coach the team? You seem to have all the answers.

True, he has exceeded expectations, but I distinctly remember him being called a first round pick in the off season

Nobody would lose their shit if the kid can play. We suffered through Dom Uhl, Brady Ellingson and Andrew Fleming. It doesn't take John Wooden to see that kid from Western Illinois has game.
It's amazing how back to back poor recruiting seasons can hurt a program like Iowa's is and always will be.

Whitey, Gabe and Ogles in 2011, good class. Woody, Mike G and AC were a good 2012 class. The small class of Peter Jok was a good one, for being a one player class. The disasters were 2014 and 2015. Nine players and only Isaiah Moss was capable of Big Ten play, lucky to have signed the Baer as a walk on.

Very good recruiting since 2016 but those huge open classes basically gutted the team of talent and then leadership resulting in 2018. Three good seasons with this season to be determined.
