Why Do Poor People Like Republicans?

Rocky forgot the most important group: People that are successful

That's the single biggest difference between Republicans and Democrats. If you want an excuse and be a dependent, you like the democrat message. If you want to take ownership and not rely on others, you like the Republican message.

So how do these "successful" people look at people like Donald Trump and George W. Bush, mediocre fools born halfway between third base and home plate, and then look at Obama and Bill Clinton - two guys who grew up without fathers and excelled completely on their own merits, and go with the former? Hell, Joe Biden grew up working class, and went to Delaware and Syracuse for college and law school, respectively. Not some Ivy League country club background. And he's been a senator and the Vice President. I have a hard time imagining that that doesn't resonate more with these "successful " types than Trump who's literally never been successful in business and, to any objective observer, has been a tremendous failure as president.

My wife is from Oelwein, Iowa in the North East part of Iowa. They wrote a book about Oelwein called "Methland". The big employer in town closed up and the town has been hurting. Since I have known my wife, the town has shrunk from 10,000 people to about 6,000 people. A 40% drop. The book is not about trying to make Oelwein look bad but trying to show what is happening all over the country.

Since China joined the WTO in 2001, the US has closed up tens of thousands of factories and lost over 5,000,000 manufacturing jobs. The Democratic Party used to be the party of the working class but is not any more. These people have no place to turn.

Jeb Bush was the GOP establishment favorite in 2015 but lost to Trump as he had no clue about the plight of the working class. I would have thought Hillary would have picked up on that but she didn't. Hillary just went for identity politics and lost.

The issue of the election is China. I would argue most Democrats don't get that and I am not some big Trump guy as I plan on voting for Biden.

Oelwein has actually started to come back around a bit. The new East Penn factory employs over 200 people at a starting wage right around $18 an hour. There are two new medical parks and HyVee is building a new store there too. It still has a ways to go; but it's definitely improving.

This is a question that has always puzzled me. Given a chance, none of those people at the White House Lawn would even imagine associating with poor America, regardless of race. So why do these brainwashed masses vote for these ass clowns?

Theories welcome!
Why do poor people think either side really cares about them, that's the real question....

Politics now isn't viewed through the lens of economic self interest anymore. Its a cultural thing. Abortion and Guns keep the GOP going.

Ownin the Libs...thats what its about. Even if it means you get lousy healthcare.

I would add the GOP have tacitly sent the message black welfare queens and Mexicans are why "good ol' boys" can't make an honest living anymore and afford the mortgage on the trailer.

The flip side is Dems have made a lot of pigmentally challenged people feel unwelcomed, especially those who identify as Christian.

Politics have turned into an all-out culture war. The Dems were the ones to wage it, and that's why they have lost a lot. If Donald Trump weren't such a dipshit, you'd have a lot fewer Dems in Congress right now.

people that believe in the american dream, hard work-merit-a better future for their children.......those people reject socialism/communism. Most of these people are God Fearing.

Thats a huge swath of people that cuts across lower and middle classes, and includes all races. They are alienated by the modern dem party and the media.

antifa/blm have hurt the dem cause.

I was just about to post something on this topic. I see trump signs around my area towns and there is a striking pattern that is noticed. I never see a democrat sign on shitty run down houses only republican. Nice houses in more affluent areas with have signs from both parties but i'm not sure i've seen a biden or democratic sign for that matter on poor homes/trailers.

I've never understood why if you're poor you wouldn't vote Democrat.

Why not vote for your own pay raise? I mean if you're poor, and vote Democrat you, the poor, will get a pay raise, not for working harder, smarter or anything that adds to the common good, but merely for voting for Democrats.

Democrats will be glad to transfer wealth, and gift to the poor the tax payer dollars of the people who earn more than they do.

So I guess, the answer is either social issues or pride. Believe it or not, a lot of people refuse the federal government's help when they meet the criteria to receive benefits.

If you're poor, you know the Democrats would gladly buy your votes.

Wow you really hate this country. You know you can leave anytime.
I find it odd that the people who always claim America is the best country in the world, have never left it and if they have, they expected it to be just like the USA.

I'm yet to see one Trump sign in our affluent town. The median household income here is $155,000.

So I asked a couple of the staff members here at Tradition Manor, and they said they wouldn't have a job if the democrats controlled everything.

Good point!

Man, it looks like I have been voting wrong all of these years.

Thanks for clearing that up!

TRUMP 2020!

I do know that they seem to hate Oprah Winfrey. I would assume she's the type of person gonegolfing is talking about.

Most people that will vote for Trump aren’t going to make a spectacle of it. Undoubtedly plenty of people in your town will vote for him and SOME might even publicly pretend to support Biden...

Maybe because their kids are stuck in crappy public schools, dominated by the teachers unions, and they don't effectively have a way to send them to better schools. Just one theory.
Must not be talking about Iowa schools, because the Iowa Republicans followed Wisconsin and took away a lot of teacher unions "power" Another reason to hate Republicans.

Trump supporters are in or more of the following groups:

-Anti-tax, anti-government types who don’t like liberal policies

GARY JOHNSON STAND UP!

I’m sure some will vote for him. I find it odd that they are all so embarrassed, that none would put a sign up. If I’d had to guess, I’d say 80% will vote for Biden in this northern NJ suburb.

I looked the 2016 election results up for our township of 25k.

1,248 voted for Trump
11,433 voted for Clinton

This used to be a Republican town.

Probably because they don't want their home burned down.

No doubt, millions of home being burnt down, or is it hundreds of homes being burnt, or is it tens of homes being burnt down, or is it many singular homes being burnt down?

Regardless of the truth, I’m sure it’s so very likely that Republican homes will be burnt down because Trump’s rhetoric told you so.

I haven’t seen even one Republican home burnt down which seems odd considering your overwhelming fear of it. You must really love being fearful. What you should fear, that is actually a legitimate cause to be fearful, is the fact that you don’t know the truth.

Dude, it was an attempt to at humor, based on the obvious - people aligned with movements strongly supported by Democrat politicians are burning down businesses and structures. Clearly, you haven't been paying attention, oh say the last three months, to the extremes some people have gone to express their rage.

And it's not Trump's rhetoric, it's state and local governmental leaders ignoring their responsibilities to public safety, to protect personal or public property, nor have protesters and counter-protesters squaring off in the streets which is clearly foreseeable to have carnage.

And believe me, where I live there is no fear any riots or violent protests, and there certainly won't be any homes being burned down.

Btw, I bet you worship at the grave James Hodgkinson.

The “China Problem” was certainly not a creation of Democrats! The “China Problem” demonstrates the basic, #1 problem facing capitalism...it looks for the highest profit margins and nothing else. This “China Problem” is a banking/ corporate America” issue...Tax law changes ( regulations) could have negated this to some extent...but the rise of China trade and deregulation seem to be parallel in their development in America.
Please, do t blame the politicians so much on this one....blame the lobbyists and their sponsors.
You are partly correct. As countries get more successful it is hard to keep low wage jobs. China does a few things that are not normally done. They subsidize their gov. owned companies to be more competitive, they steal IP with cyber theft and they peg their currency to keep it weak.

Nobody wants to hear this but their is a way to keep export oriented jobs like Germany does. It is Savings-Investment=Exports-Imports.

S - I = Exports - Imports

Countries that have high savings rates, run trade surpluses. Budget deficits are dis-savings.

Hilarious. Sorry I’m not buying your angle. I have yet to see any Democratic leader advocate for rioting, looting, and violence. But you knew that. Your angle is equating social justice movements with those other criminal activities as though they are the same thing then you can dismiss both as a convenient way of ignoring the actual problem. It may be persuasive for the simple minded and fearful people but it doesn’t for those of us that know better.

BTW I haven’t a clue who James Hodgkinson is. Did he invent a lymphoma? Maybe the fact you dropped his name ITT says more about you than me perhaps?

This thread is TLDR, but to answer OP's question, poor people vote for Republicans for the same reason that poor people vote for Democrats. It's because they believe their bullshit.

Trump wouldn’t even stand next to them if they had a baby and Trump was looking for a photo op.

I personally know way more poor democrats than republicans. All of my rich friends are Republicans. For some reason the 5 doctors I’m close to are hard core republicans they just don’t announce it to the world. Same with the wealthy business owners.
