Why is Nebber such a lil bro to Iowa?? Why can’t they compete at our level?

The still have a terrible losing culture over there.

They frequently find a way to lose games they shouldn’t. So many of their games is then finding a way to lose instead of the other team finding a way to win. You just sit back and wait for it to happen.

I don’t know that they aren’t at our level. Our games seem to come down to a field goal more often than not, so I’d say we’re pretty close. For lack of one small gust of wind, Friday’s game goes into overtime.
If they ever stop living in the 90s and accept that 8-4 is not a fireable offense, they might someday build their program into something that can occasionally compete for a playoff spot. The days of Osborne are long gone. You can’t get away with sweeping things under the rug anymore. It’s time for them to accept that they aren’t the big fish in the little pond that was the Big 8. Once they do that, they can start advancing the program.

Once your program starts to decline, it is extremely difficult to get it back. But I feel like the OP…. I would have never thought Nebraska would ever struggle like this. I’m willing to bet that when they entered BIG, most fan bases felt “Crap, they will be right up there with Michigan and Ohio State.” Obviously ,it hasn’t happened. Most years they were AT or NEAR the bottom of the West Division. It’s mind boggling to me. I guess the Hawks have their share of problems so I’ll stick to worrying about them. (As if I have any say….lol)

I saw a post on their board talking about how “jealous” Iowa fans are of their history. It tells a lot about their mindset. I have never met an Iowa fan who cares about Nebraska’s titles, other than being sick of hearing about them. They have an immense sense of arrogance that bleeds into the program, creating the thuggish culture we’ve witnessed under multiple coaches there. They cling desperately to “blue blood” status, but nobody cares about a game from 30 years ago

The more I think about the game, the more Nebber’s inability to be relevant on even a bottom 3rd B1G level is starting to bother me.

I mean, what the hell is even going on these last 15 years with those bottom 6 B1G teams.

They have their own world going on down there.
Attention to detail and a culture that makes 105% effort, both physical and mental, are what separate these teams many times.

Maryland and Nebby are two of the most undisciplined and error prone teams out there, a lot of penalties especially at crucial times are killers and turnovers are killers. They have underwhelming teams due to their coaching and mentality

Not being in the right position and working in the team concept can be a killer/losing proposition.

And then there is effort on every play like hustling to the ball, helping to finish tackles, holding blocks an extra second that make all the difference. Coaches say games turn on maybe 6-8 plays so if your players are taking time off you may lose all those big plays.

Many times the hawks do not have the best collection of athletes on the field but they usually have supreme effort both physically and mentally that other teams do not.

Also look at Illinois, the last few coaches they had they were a mess. Lovie Smith and others who didnt have the top notch organization, they had lots of mistakes, etc. It wasnt that many years ago that Iowa was regularly crunching Illinois like in 2020 and the 63-0 beatdown around 2018.

Whatever a person thinks of Bielema, he learned from Fry and Alvarez that every T has to be crossed and every I dotted. His Illinois teams dont make a lot of mistakes, they hustle, and many times like just last week they snatch victory from the jaws of defeat by doing the little and big things on every play.

Why? Because it’s fresh in most minds is why and what all transpired maybe? 🤔 Mmmmmm
I get that.

I guess I should have asked why all the Nebraska threads post-game. There are a lot of them.

Iowa won the game. That is the ultimate last word. After that, threads like these stoop our fan base down to their level.

No biggie, just saying.

Also pointing out that this board has a significant Nebraska complex.

Threads like this have nothing to do with Iowa. They are Nebraska threads

Participation is optional. Most have title giving away the subject. Some of us enjoy every opportunity to bash our little sister Debbie.

There are always lots of threads about that week's opponent in the 1st couple days after a game. Usually moves on once the opponent fans go away. Nebraska fans never go away.

We've beaten them 9 of the last 10. So they aren't at our level.

I hope we beat them every year. The games are close, soul stealing losses for them.

Kirk says “ don’t make mistakes, have just 5-6 good plays, wait for them to give us the game- especially in freezing temps and at home.”

Good post

They're just comically pathetic, from their stupid fans to their stupid mascot and everything in between. They want so bad to beat us and they just can't--even when we effectively kneel on the ball for the entire game.

Dochterman article on athletic. In last decade Nebraska and Illinois tied for 11th after Saturday (out of 14) for most wins in Big 10. 1 behind Maryland. Let that sink in how for how bad they’ve been.

One thing to be proud of history but another to gloat about it when it’s been so long barely anyone in your fanbase under 40 remembers it and basically no one under 30. Let alone you’ve been so bad last 20 years your team is irrelevant on the national stage (not 1 season with 3 losses or less). They lose their bowl game that is 9 losing seasons out of the last 10.

Mentioned on this board before. But what do you think Husker fans would’ve said to gopher fans in the 90s if they were talking about their titles? Would’ve laughed in their face. Ironic thing is they creeping very close to some place where it has been that 30+ year gap since they were dominant.

The fiasco at the coin toss was enough to stoke the bad feeling I have for them and their fan base. Classless.
100%. Their AD should have been ripping Rhule's ass on that after the game. It's on the AD if he allows that crap to go on. That is way different than a player celebrating a big play.

To be fair to maybe 50% of the Husker fan base online that I have witnessed thus far they are pissed he had them do that also.

And having a QB who literally is posing as Patrick Mahomes. That is sick for an adult.

My point is that we aren’t too far apart. One bounce this way or that has been the deciding factor in most of those 9 out of 10 wins. Yes, the Iowa culture stresses discipline and consistency where the UNL program keeps shooting for the moon and missing, but that is 100% on the coaches. That just means if they ever stop jerking off to memories of Mike Rozier, they could become a consistent player in the conference.

Many fans simply don't understand how Nebraska was successful back in the 90s.

Academic standards were lower, there was no steroid testing, and criminal activity was swept under the rug.
Those days are gone.
Nebraska won't ever achieve previous glory.
