Why not #1?!?!

I am fine with 3rd or 4th, as the team ranked #1 has not had much success in keeping it.

besides as the 3 IA is a lock for the Midwest 1 seed any higher and they get moved to a different region as they are setup to reflect where they stand in the rankings,

Not true, the higher your overall seed the more favorable your placement in the NCAA Tournament will be.

Why in the world would bring the #2 seed mean we couldn't be in MW region? Regional matchup a in the final four are not predetermined already

I see Iowa at #3, with zero #1 votes.
I don't think Iowa gets enough votes to be #1 but a handful of AP voters that released their rankings put Iowa at #1 so you are wrong that Iowa will have zero #1 votes. I think Nova gets the lions share of the #1 votes and Iowa/Maryland each have a few.

Facts would make Iowa a clear #1. Which is why KenPom and other computer ratings have Iowa in that exact spot...#1 in the nation.

Subjective opinions form polls, which is why it is entirely possible that a team with nowhere near Iowa's resume, and which is behind them in the Big Ten race (along with every other Big Ten team LOL) is likely to be ahead of Iowa, if not #1, in the human polls.

But, of course, it doesn't much matter as long as the Hawkeyes continue to be the most consistent team in the country. Then they'll be #1 when and where it actually matters.

I guess it depends upon what you consider to be the important "facts." The computers which calculate RPI at liverpi.com currently have Iowa at #8. Maryland is at #4. Also, Iowa's projected season's end RPI at rpiforecast.com has fallen from #5 to #7. Both Virginia and Oregon have jumped past them. Maryland is projected to finish the season at #3.

FYI, last week Nova had 1384 points, Maryland 1366 and Iowa 1362 in the AP poll. #1 is wide open. Nova had the best win this week so they should take the top spot but the top 3 should be tight.

Do the voters keep their own polls from week to week, or do they consult last week's full AP poll when they vote, I wonder?

For some reason, I was under the impression that the NCAA Selection Committee didn't like to put both a #1 and #2 from the same geographic region into the same bracket. However, looking back at the '14 and '15 brackets, it looks like my understanding was incorrect.

In 2015, the #2 seeds included Kansas (Midwest with #1 Kentucky) and Virginia (East with #1 Villanova). Wisconsin was a #2 in the West with #1 Arizona and Gonzaga was a #2 in the South with #1 Duke. So . . . two of the four #2 seeds were playing in their "home" region.

In 2014, the #2 seeds included Villanova (East with #1 Virginia) and Michigan (Midwest with #1 Wichita State). Kansas was a #2 seed in the South with #1 Florida and Wisconsin was a #2 in the West again with #1 Arizona. So . . . again . . . two of the four #2 seeds were playing in their "home" region.
