blitz package? I love the size but lack the quickness I wouldn't mind seeing Slater (no guys not AC) but someone with a bad ass nasty mean streak who has some super quicks and strength?

I agree. Mends seems like the kind of kid who would have an impact in a game like next week. Could need some speed versus size defensively.
Why put something on film (that other teams can breakdown, and gameplan for) in a game that was well in hand ?
If Iowa just put Mends in for blitzes the O would know how to gameplan. The reason Wisconsin is so great at LB blitzes is because they come at you from everywhere and anywhere. If Iowa wants to have that success they need to mix it up and have all LB's be a threat at the blitz.
I do not get the Mends situation. You go from being numero uno for 8 months, then nothing??
He is either in the KF DJK doghouse, or he got hurt a few weeks ago and is still slowed, and no one is talking. Absolutely HAS to be something like that.
You can't go from being the man in the spring, to getting great compliments from coaches and others during summer training, to #1 at camp. Then a NOBODY a week before the season starts.
What's up here... Anyone have an answer? Think Kirk will say something at tomorrow's media day?
Amani Jones has already earned the "/" with Mends so maybe that says more about Jones than Mends
