I don't know. It doesn't make sense. I understand why Trump doesn't want to go there right now, but not any of the rest of them. It's not hard to see this was all Russia, and there really isn't a reasonable argument otherwise.
I do get the point about NATO breaking it's agreement, but come on...the Warsaw pact isn't a thing anymore, and an invasion is an invasion.

Here’s the thing: even if it were true and Ukraine had been on the verge of joining NATO, so what? It’s a DEFENSIVE alliance and no matter how much Russian puppets want to pretend otherwise, there was never a threat of NATO moving against russia. What it would have meant from the Russian perspective is that the possibility of expanding in Ukraine would have meant risking a broader war that Putin would lose.

Russia agreed to German unification if NATO agreed not to move further east. NATO broke that, so that's the argument.
Now...on the contrary, Russia has invaded other countries since then, so this excuse when applied to Ukraine is IMO one more of convenience for Russia than a legit reason for their invasion.
