Why would an innocent man delay his opportunity to prove his innocence?

Makes very little sense to me. Maybe he just likes being tied up in court.
1. For starters, "prove his innocence"?
2. In light of #1, why would a person want to expedite a criminal proceeding in the ordinary course, setting aside potential eventualities like exculpatory witnesses dying?
3. Maybe he has other things going on that are sort of important to him.
