Why Would Speaker Johnson Not Want Gaetz Ethics Report Released?

Here's the actual reality, based on what's publicly known and logical speculation.

Gaetz has allegedly done a bunch of unsavory shit. The kind of stuff that is well below the low standards of Congress. Some of the stuff that has been alleged is criminal in nature, but federal prosecutors determined not to prosecute.

So there's no reason to think there's a smoking gun in terms of criminal stuff.

It's also the kind of stuff that Republicans would have no problem ignoring. Think about the shit they tolerate from MTG, Boebert and others.

But Gaetz is disliked among his colleagues and helped sink McCarthy. So he got an investigation. So in some sense, by selectively upholding terribly low standards, it's a bit of a hit job. By the Republican congress.

All of this would have proceeded without folks like hawkedoff conjuring fantasies, because who really gives a shit about saving Gaetz?

That's until the total surprise of Trump nominating him for AG. Even the cultists didn't see that coming and were a little put off.

So now that the guy who has had a grip on the Republican party for almost a decade, the guy who can end political careers with a few tweets/truths has tapped Gaetz for AG, GOP lawmakers have to fall in line.

Which means trying to protect him by not releasing the report. Which in effect really means protecting GOP senators who vote to confirm him.

Because the reality is that there's nothing that could possibly be contained in the report that would actually bother the GOP base. But there's certainly things that would bother moderates who could flip things in 2026, or embarrass Trump. And that's about all they care about.

That they didn't squash this 2 years ago tells me there's more than just stuff that might make them blush.

What's particularly stupid to me in this case - history tells us stuff like this doesn't stay buried forever. It ALWAYS comes out eventually.

Of course in today's environment, reality only matters so much. People like the wop will assume Trump 4D chess. Hawkedoff will think it's all a Democrat fabrication.

They have normalized the most aberrant behavior in order to protect / promote Trump. Trump himself tolerates no independence or lack of subservience. They must confirm Gaetz or they will be on Dear Leader’s kill list.

This is a perfect example of why some people don’t understand the authoritarian nature of the Trump movement. Most Republicans know Gaetz is a scum bag. They are simply too afraid to speak up for fear of retribution, or figure they’ll get what they want by supporting the leader.

tiny will attempt to skirt democracy whenever he can. We all know that. But it's silly because I have no doubts the Senate will unanimously green light all of his nominations anyway.
I have a simple question. Were you all up in arms about skirting democracy when Obama made 32 recess appointments? Maybe it was when Clinton made 139 recess appointments? Or is it just this instance that would be considered "skirting" democracy?

How many were pedos that members of their own party loathed?

No matter how frequently Mike Johnson masturbates he looks like someone who still struggles with premature ejaculation.

Like I've said: They would not/could not stand against him after 1/6 back in 2021. What would enable them to have "more backbone" now, where he actually has the power to really retaliate against them with the full force of the US government. Watch, as he "deputizes" all the 1/6 perps he pardons, and makes this even worse. When that happens, the ability to stand against him becomes pretty much impossible.

We’ll see what happens when the vetting process starts. The fact that his wife (who from experience would scrutinize him waaaaay more than any elected official stands by him and believes him casts some doubt on the validity of that claim. Secondly, Trump was never accused or convicted of rape. He was held liable for allegedly groping a women 30 years ago. Hard to imagine they would be able to find 12 people that hated him enough to side against him on a he said/ she said case without any evidence.
I don't remember Hillary saying one word about Bill.

Money and power buries a lot indiscretion.

Don't need to. If something criminal occurred an ethics committee would be bound by....wait for it....ethics....to turn it over for prosecution. They didn't.

Another politikkkal hit job by the democrats
Ethics can go beyond strict legality. For example, pick a state that has a low age of consent. Hawaii at 14 could be the example. If Gaetz had slept with a 15 year old while in Hawaii it wouldn't be illegal, but could be ethically questionable. If he was paying girls over the age of 18 in Florida it may or may not be illegal, but definitely could raise ethical concerns. If he was paying 17 year olds via Venmo they could find that credible, turn it over and it still doesn't mean that it would be prosecuted.

It's interesting that you're making this assumption about the same governing body that included Mark Foley and Dennis Hastert.

Because it's nonsense political theater/revenge using a source so untrustable that even the Garland don knew it was fake news city. Dems do love to cling to their lies/conspiracy theories though.

Will you actually admit it if you are wrong?

Will you actually admit it when I turn out to be prescient?
LOL. I didn't make a claim. I'm hoping like hell you are wrong, which would be best for the country. Weekend news reports are saying as many as 30 Republican Senators have said Gaetz won't be confirmed. I think it's very possible Trump won't try to go against a large block of Senators.

Hope you’re right. But history tends to side with us here. GOP Senators have a history of talking tough and then quietly acquiescing in the end.

He’s got several nominees so far who are questionable at best. I’m of the opinion Gaetz might be the only one who has a chance to not be confirmed, tho I still think he does in the end.

One appears to be truly in love and supportive of her husband. Every picture she’s all over him. Hillary is obviously a power hungry woman who had political aspirations of her own. Bill had multiple women speak out against him with first hand accounts of wrong doing. Matt Gaetz had a woman testify before a house ethics committee that she saw him have sex with a 17-year-old. A second hand account raises a lot of questions. The fact that there isn’t a police report and therefore no criminal investigation raises even more. Time will tell I suppose.

Of those, how many were high level cabinet positions? Your report doesn't specify. So please enlighten us.

It casts no validity to the claim. It doesn't end well for her if she throws him under the bus. She's motivated to lie.

Under oath. Republican voters always seem to forget that part. The people they like don't testify under oath. The people who accuse them of wrongdoing, DO testify under oath. More logical thinking that doesn't sink in. They believe the obvious liars and dismiss the people UNDER OATH, telling the truth. Uggghhh!

He has been repeatedly accused of rape.
The judge also said he was liable for RAPE. It's the word he used. He wasn't found liable for allegedly groping. Explaining things over and over and over with these guys.

He has been repeatedly accused of rape.
Has he though? There is quite a bit of ignorance to the criminal definition of rape. Groping a woman is not rape, forcibly entering a woman’s vagina with your penis without her consent is rape. If you don’t find a law suit involving accusing someone of groping you 30 years after it allegedly happened suspicious, I don’t know what to tell you. The fact that the accused is a billionaire may have had something to do with it. Laughing and celebrating on the View and bragging about all the gifts she’s going to buy them on National TV didn’t sound like any sexual abuse survivor I’ve ever seen. No police report, no criminal charges because you need evidence for that. Much easier to sue. Jurys love giving away rich guys money.

Under oath?! Well why didn’t say so? That changes everything! NOBODY would lie under oath would they?! Like Cavanaugh’s accuser, or Amber Heard, or Pete Hegseth’s accuser or Trevor Bauer’s accuser. A lie is a lie. Tom you’re way too old to still be a sweet summer child.
