Will Margaret whine….

Iowa's offense really sucked according to the statistics. Payton and Perkins shooting was absolutely pathetic. I know it happens but can't with a team that plays terrible defense.

You must admit their family is very intertwined into the fabric of Iowa basketball and they do not shy away from being vocal both in person and through various platforms.
So not that big a deal.

And she calls out Iowa fans for being too hard on Fran and her boys. She's a mama bear, I get it. I just was shocked that Philly side of Fran has a problem with the media. Also, the boys do go after others on social media so I'm not sure that's fair to say everyone is hard on me when they do the same.

Jack's career will be interesting...he won't get a free pass if one phase of his game is missing at another P5 school.
Of course he's supposed to be the best of the 3 so far, so he probably will be the one that got away.
I just think its funny because I said about 2 or 3 years ago when all this angst between Margaret and the fans started, that, 1) Jack would be the best of the three, and 2) He'd never play for Fran at Iowa. I still remember all the folks who remarked how I was crazy, and there was NO way that he would be going anywhere else but Iowa if Fran was coaching here. I guess their all betting that Fran leaves after this season, so they can be at least half right....

At least with Conner, we knew what we’d get every night - toughness, team defense, and getting his teammates involved with passing. We’d get some maddening things too, of course.

My point is I’m not sure what Pmac actually gives us. Defense = no. Shooting = rarely. Creating on offense = yes, but only when the line-drive runner is falling or cherry-picking layup/fast breaks.

Payton I believe was 5-10 with 7 boards. Sonny was the other one besides Perkins that bent the rim up all game. They were 2-17 but at least Perkins does expand his efforts towards rebounding if the shots aren’t dropping. “22” bounces around the court and snags all of “3” rebounds in 24 minutes, avoiding almost every opportunity to use his 6’9” length on the glass. And still starts.

That's the normal situation every year.

Iowa will never win a game where they shoot like this with Fran as the coach.
You know what’s funny (not really) is both teams shot like shit from 3. Oklahoma 4-20 and we were 4-23. Big difference is they shot 27-44 from 2. They didn’t let it affect the rest of their game. They just pounded it inside and dominated in the paint. We chucked 3’s and panicked. And still played no D. Terrible.

OK beat our guys off the dribble and finished at the rim many times.
We are simply not quick enough to stay in front of our guy for the most part. After getting by our defender offense is easy...finish or kick it to a teammate who will...we can never catch up.
You can afford one Payton on the floor max with 4 quick guys.
Perkins and Bowen with 3 slow guys is not going to work.
Right now I would go with :
Bowen
Perkins
Dix
Freeman
Krikke.
You need Ben on the floor for scoring and spacing on offense.
Owen can help him on defense.
Dix is quick enough to guard 3s.
Payton needs to be instant offense off the bench and Patrick needs to use space opened by paytons shooting to slash vs reserves.
Shake it up, Fran!

I should have specified 3 pointers for Payton. If I remember correctly, he was 0 - 5.
He was. It was painful to watch for sure, no matter which end of the court they were on. Some suck it up and try to contribute in other areas. One doesn’t, in my opinion.

Coming off the bench for offense would be appropriated role. CMAC did bring toughness, but I don't think that made up for his lack off offense. Neither boy was starter material, but FRan had a a rule....Always one on the court, sometimes both...almost never zero McCaffery. Neither McCaffery was a total bust...just too many minutes.

Your scenario would create a ton of problems for Fran if he's at Iowa. If Jack plays well at a school Fran isn't at the optics will look terrible. A lot of narratives Fran doesn't want will surface. Fran and Margaret can't even handle the light criticism of Connor and Patrick. I can't imagine them being able to handle the criticism of Fran if Jack lights it up. "Fran's own kid doesn't want to play for him". "Frans recruiting is so bad he can't recruit his own kid".

Pmac rebounded and played much better. The announcers touched on his medication and the physical effects it has on him. I have a friend with the same deal, thyroid, and she struggles mightily. Pmac looks to be hitting the boards better than I've ever seen him. The muscle seems to have helped with that.
