Microsoft has announced that Windows 10 will be available on July 29th. You can reserve your free Windows 10 upgrade now through a simple reservation process. Look for this icon in your system tray at the bottom of your screen, simply click on the icon, and then complete the reservation process.

If you don’t see it, check your Windows Update. On my Windows 7, it is not showing up so I assume this will be part of path Tuesday June 2nd.

The initial release will be for PC and tablets.

You can reserve your free upgrade in the Get Windows 10 App. Once you reserve, Windows 10 will download when available, and you can cancel your reservation at any time.

Click on the small Windows icon found at the right end of the taskbar. If you don’t see it, visit our Q&A page for more info.

What's all the opinions on this? Should I upgrade from 8.1 to 10?

I just picked up a Surface 3 (comes with free Win10 upgrade for a year from release date) and have another crappy dell laptop as well that the kids primarily use. I am going to take the free upgrade for the laptop ASAP and then hold out a month or so on the Surface 3 as I have time on that one.

Thing is I like Windows 8.1 and have not had any issues with it on my Surface, my crappy dell, or my work laptop. I don't get why people hate it so much, change isn't always a bad thing and learning new stuff is typically a good thing.

Also....I am personally super excited about Win10. Have you guys checked out the Microsoft Hololens? Its a peak into the future of computing IMO.

Im glad I waited a little to get a surface. I am going to ride out 2015 with the old I Pad just using the brower and a few apps and move to the Surface for 2016.

I really love mine. Physically the Surface 3 is beautifully designed and I really like the versatility of it (yes I know I can get Windows on other tablet devices). The only drawbacks right now is the Surface 3 doesn't charge super fast (like the RT and Pro versions do...it has a micro charge port that most cell phones have) but the batter life is pretty good.

The other downside is the lack of applications in the MS store. They have all the big boy apps that you would expect but they don't have near the volume of the Apple or Android stores.

I have the 1st Generation I-Pad, got it in 2010. It still functions, but many of the apps don't anymore. Recently, Youtube moved on. I can still use it on the browser. I think I got a full five years with it, and thats pretty good in tech life. I guess what bothers me is that I will basically lose the apps I paid for. I am determined to replace my Windows 7 Laptop and the I-Pad with one device.
