Refresh Ol' Doodle's memory....what is the rule in terms of distance that the ath dept uses to determine if they fly or drive? And is there flexibility in that rule for weather situations where flying might be the safer choice even if inside the typical driving radius??
Usually when you fly, that's the morning of the game...speaking as someone that has flown to games. With Thanksgiving today and the late start tomorrow, I could see it. Not sure it's ideal as a player though...just have to have that road warrior mentality aka "we're flying in, KICKING ASS and then getting the HELL out."

The morning of? Iowa always comes the day before the game, same with basketball teams? I thought that was a rule. Remember when our basketball game with NU was postponed three-four years ago. It was said the B1G requires them there the night before.
I'm just speaking from my personal experience and could be wrong, not knowing how Iowa does it. Chartering a plane for a day vs two days would be preferred to an Athletic Dept budget I would think but again, I don't know here.
Even if that was the way Iowa did it in the past...for sure that "flying in the day of" policy ended moments after the 1996 loss at Tulsa.
They drove to Madison which is 2:58 according to Google maps. Lincoln is 4:28 and they flew.
This is correct. Those are the only 3 places they bus to. They fly everywhere else the day before the game.
Not Illinois? I remember former Illini coach Ron Turner making a big deal out of the Hawks flying in for the 2004 game in Champaign.
I thought it was anything over 300 miles but i could be wrong. Lincoln is just over 300. (by like 2 miles)
They don't keep the plane there, it leaves and flies other charters in between.
