I was thinking about this earlier. I think I would still go:
Iowa St.- biggest rival but not most important game.
Wisconsin- most important game
Minnesota- embarassing to lose.
Nebraska- I think I dislike their fans more than the program.

Historically, Minnesota has been our top rival. For decades, they had one of top teams in the nation. The games were bitterly fought eventually causing the governors to step in trying to lighten the feelings on both sides hence the Floyd of Rosedale.
Iowa St. is the most embarrassing to lose, and it isn't even close. Luckily it doesn't happen anymore. But that's the only reason that W matters, is to not become a national laughingstock for losing to ISU.
I like Wisconsin-Iowa because there is a mutual respect in this rivalry. Iowa State and Minnesota are little brothers. Nebraska is like your drunk uncle that used to be a player, is old, now has herpes, and can’t get a date.
Yup. Nebraska was always a rivalry based on the mutual disdain between our fanbases. We were the big brother that always heard about the bully beating up on little brother, and they'd occasionally spout insults about us to little brother and we'd laugh it off. But then they got too big for their britches and came looking for us in our own conference..........This was a mistake.
P.S. Honorable mention to Illinois as that was a VERY heated rivalry while Illinois was a respectable program.
There is no question that it is the rivalry game that I look forward to playing every year. Win or lose, two teams put on helmets and smash each others’ faces in.
Many of my friends who went to B1G schools text me during this game telling me about how much they love watching this one as well.
I, personally, think this is the second best rivalry in the B1G outside of The Game.

Wait did you just call the DM metro hicks?! Lol, that’s about the only cool/modern place in the state!
Anyway I do agree that Wis is our biggest rival the last few years.
Most of the country thinks of Iowa St football as D2. Until you're winning stuff you’re equal with Minny. Nobody gives a shit if Iowa wins one more game every year and basically splits with Minnesota. The only thing that really matters for Iowan sports (maybe wrestling but about 5 states care about that too) is D1 football and parades are thrown for more than 7 wins. The bowl embarrassments are quickly forgotten and forgiven. High fives are then passed around for ‘tough’ teams. Participation awards are accepted annually as long as a sniff of relevance is obtained during the season. Hell even coaches bonuses are awarded by the AD for qualifying for a bowl. Mediocrity is rewarded for Iowa Football and fans eat it up.

It isn't close. Wisconsin is our biggest rival. They are in our division and the overall record is like 46-43-2 in favor of Wisconsin. Barry Alvarez took our blueprint and 2 of our assistants (McCarney & Bernie Wyatt) to build his program. If anyone thinks that this isn't correct then they aren't paying attention. They are the enemy.
By my count we’ve been relevant 5 going on 6 times nationally in this century. To Nebraska’s 0. Embrace your mediocrity.

From strictly a football perspective it is Wisconsin. Nebbie and Minny are because of the border, same division and their fans. ISU is simply an attempt at a rivalry created by the media and their fans. ISU's entire existence revolves around Iowa. They live in and through Iowa. Their fans care more about Iowa losing than them winning. My God, there are 22k posts on CF on Iowa football recruiting and less than 1k on their own recruiting. It is simply a forced rivalry by them but a real rivalry takes 2 teams and fanbases. Most people I know dread the ISU game as it's a lose-lose for Iowa which is clearly not a rivalry.
You're not a jerk, you're just an idiot. Des Moines sucks and is full of hicks and tools, many of whom are graduates of Iowa's Agricultural College and Model Farm. Grew up there and only gets worse every time I visit. Move there if it's so great....

How so? Iowa is a small state and has two P5 football programs. We battle for recruits and state pride. Everyone in the state has friends who are Iowa or Iowa St. fans. I know 2 Badger fans, a few Nebraska fans and 0 Minnesota fans.
However, it's a non- conference game. If Iowa loses, which we have multiple times when ISU was horrible, Iowa can still go on to have a good season with wins over great teams in the B1G.

For the "Beat State" shirts? Most are worn for Michigan St, Penn St., Ohio St. too. In fact, I didn't see many "beat state" shirts at all at Kinnick. For the record, the shirt I have seen for Wisconsin is much more vulgar than "beat".
Since it would evidently take an act of congress for us to quit playing them, it’s the clowns by far
