Watch any old footage of basketball games....other than last 10 or 15 years....but especially 1990 and prior and how refreshing not to see players flopping to the floor constantly, nor refs blowing whistles on defensive players just trying to play defense and retain their right to vertically.
Basketball was accurately defined back then as a "Contact" sport. When guys backed another player to basket, there was contact and unless you slapped someone on the shooting hand, there was not a foul. If some fool fell (rarely seen), then play on.
Look at these players (including women), they are big people....yet they go flying in the airlike fragile feathers on any slight bumps....only to be rewarded by official for nothing more than play acting.
Officiating was supposed to be keeping that in check the past couple of years...and actually calling Tech for the play acting ....we've seen none of that. It continues to get worse. To make matters worse, some refs can't seem to judge what actually is a charge now...unless a player does the fly in the air act. Case in point, Iowa vs Ohio st women's game. Ohio st star player (a very thick person) continually rammed Iowa players backwards hard as she backed in....text book charging....but then was rewarded with a fouls on Iowa or easy basket...or both when she shot the ball.
I have a solution. After each game, there needs to be officiating accountablity, Press conference consists of both teams, then the oficials of the game have their time by media. Answer the questions that Coaches can't dare discuss per getting fined or vindictive calls against them the next time by certain officials.
NCAA needs to weed out the bad officials....plain and simple.
