Wisconsin WBB Coach

guess who brought up race to begin with... the coach. talking about her players. how would you like to be described as run of the mill by your coach? i don't know why you are going out your way to defend her.

and btw, if you look at a LOT of bb rosters the white kids are a rarity.
To answer your other question, I’m defending her because I’m sick of this White Grievance nonsense in our country. We’ve seen where it gets us:

We’ve clearly got people on this board who fall prey to race-baiting garbage and to be frank, it sickens me.

Why would a white coach say black people are the most common race in our society? That wouldn’t make any sense.
I personally don't see anything wrong with what she said. But it makes me wonder how other people would react if the shoe was on the other foot.

But again, the shoe being on the other foot would literally mean a white coach saying black people are the most common race in our society, which wouldn’t make any sense. So what is there to wonder about?

It’s a false equivalency.

Run of the mill a poor choice of words, but I think some folks want to make something out of nothing. Point that diversity is a good thing.
I agree. ^^ It was an inartful choice of words...but not really smackdown material. But I also wish that when any given white person also mumbles something equally inane that certain people don't lose their s#*$ trying gin up a controversy where none really exists.

There is a whole industry these days that does little but try to whip up a controversy where nothing really exists so as to get "clicks". Relax people...there are 360 million people in this country...stupid things get said every day. Let her boss handle it with her...go back to your lives. :)

You make a good point. A lot of people aren’t sophisticated enough thinkers to understand how they’re being manipulated by the media. They go from anger-making tweet to anger-making article to anger-making television show, not realizing it’s all just a way to distract them from the real issues our country is facing.

We’ve got 9 million kids in this country who aren’t sure if they’re going to have to skip their next meal. We’ve got over 30,000 veterans living on the streets. At least 68,000 people die each year because they don’t have health insurance while health insurance companies make $70 billion per year in profits.

All that going on and we have people bitching and moaning because a Black person said she has players from the most common race in our country. Give me a break.

While the majority of the press wishes this wasn't true, most Americans don't wake up each day with their race or gender (or any other potentially divisive trait) at the forefront of their thoughts. Let's worry about our character and how we can make someone else's day better....everything will fall into place if we tried a few of those things.

You’re right that people don’t tend to wake up thinking of themselves as a certain race or gender, but the reality for many people is that these issues are forced into their life because of how people treat them due to their race, gender, sexuality, religion, age, disability, etc. People in marginalized groups don’t have to go looking for a fight because the fight so often comes to them.

Pretending these types of discrimination don’t exist is never going to be a solution. .

True enough, but theres also a whole group of people who are constantly, and actively looking to stir up that fight.

And the people constantly and actively looking to stir up that fight are so outnumbered by the number of people who suffer discrimination in silence as to make the former group statistically insignificant. Just because the assholes and attention-seekers are the most vociferous doesn’t mean they represent the larger group in any meaningful way.

Acting like the small percentage of people who overreact are somehow at the core of the issue entirely misses the point

And YET, not one thing I said was false. Grab someone else to tell your tale to. Not interested, in yet another long thread from the "oh woe is me crowd".......

It’s embarrassing to take this as literal in regards to population.
If you want to be literal, in basketball at the highest level, black athletes are then by definition run of the mill.
