Wisconsin

Good memory-tough start.

I shouldn't say this, Carlton, as I enjoy feeding Badgers chocolate and bubble gum, both bad for them. But I think it is a testament to the past that opposing fans expect extremely high quality results year in and year out. And you guys have accomplished it!

But it takes a lot of things to come together for a run like you guys have had to happen. And throughout it, when some ingredients have been missing your program has overcome the liabilities.

The thing is everybody knows that sooner or later you will have a down year. That won't make things any less impressive in terms of the fantastic streak you've had. It'll just be over.

You are right, you are going to have a team similar to Iowa's in 2017/18, very young and inexperienced. Maybe not quite to where we were, but close.

It'll be no great treat if Iowa and others put you out of your place among the top four. It'll be a treat if Iowa is in the top four.

And the bigger, better, MEAL will be being one of the teams that keeps the Badgers down for years to come! :) Have a Hershey's, Badger. I don't want to see you guys suffer unless we're one of the teams handing out the candy! :D

I've said Wiscy can't possibly contend or make the tourney time and time again but then some other red headed tool steps up and they are great. They get the benefit of the doubt until they finally are OUT.

This would be my guess today. The B1G looks very solid next year. Getting back to the NCAAs will be the goal.
Lots of young talent arriving in Madison, so the Badger's upcoming season might be similar to that of the Hawk's last year. Hopefully, several guys will emerge like the pleasant surprises that Iowa experienced.
Fortunately, Bucky is taking the boys down to New Zealand in September for some exhibition games which will give GG and staff the opportunity to try some different combinations.

Carlton, I certainly am not going to bet against your boys of winter to not play the game of college basketball well in this conference. That's just too risky for me. There are plenty of very good BB players in your state and around the country who want to play the game in Madison and in the Kohl Center so I am sure Gard has a plan and he is going to be working it as you are saying. The trip to New Zealand will help too.

As far as the Hawks are concerned, we have to get a few more stops on the D end and play it better to improve upon what this young team was able to accomplish this last season? Fran has the talent and I am more impressed than ever with our 3 frosh coming in - Garza, Nunge and C McCaffery. They are big and they are very talented BB players. Play with great skills, with an attitude and great effort.

I watched Nunge play in that Indiana playoff game against Ben Davis. Jack is all of 6'11", like a Uhtoff and dominated in that buzzer beater loss against BD. 32 points and 13 rebounds. Jack scored 14 points in the fourth quarter and was the driving force in the Castle comeback. Plus this big can shoot FTs which was a big handicap this team needs to improve upon next year.

We just have to play a better defense, get more physical and get after it....it's a few stops here and there that can win you more games if you have an offense that can score points and we do.

As always, scheduling will have a lot to say for all teams too?

Next year will be a huge test for GG. I don't know who will leave early on other teams, but it would be hard to pick Wisky in the top 4 or 5 in the B1G. Happ is a nice start, but...

When defending a team that has to go full court with a few sec left, I have never understood why teams don't do a better job of making sure that primary ball handler cannot catch the ball heading in the direction of their basket. Make another player beat you, and don't let them catch the ball with momentum going down the court. Still, that was an incredible play by the little guard.

I'll say. Iverson is their most explosive player on the team and Barry just kind of a "finesse" player. I've seen Iverson throw down dunks that would have sent Barry through the rim along with the ball. He got way too tentative going up.
He did (Iverson), and he got fouled to boot.

People have said "next year they won't go anywhere near the tournament" for how many years now?

They've been to 19 straight NCAA tourneys.

Until it actually happens, I won't bet against them.

That's kind of where I am with the Badgers. Happ is a very good building block. I could see Iverson becoming a very good player. Someone from among Trice, Hill and Prizl will probably become good (maybe 2 of them) and would anyone be surprised if Illikanen or one of their newcomers was good? I wouldn't. It's obvious they know what they are looking for in players, and when they get on campus those guys buy into what the team is all about. They will play hard, they will play defense and they will share the ball on offense. That makes a team dangerous.

Great team, missed free throws obviously co$t them the game... next year even with Hap back, they struggle mightily.. they won't sniff the NCAA tournament

Bro, how many years has this been said?

Wisconsin has been to NCAA's 19 straight years. Do you think they've never had to replace seniors before?

There is talent on the roster, you just haven't seen it yet. That's what Wisconsin does, they develop players and stash them like a minor league farm system until they're ready. Ethan Happ redshirted as a freshman. Aleem Ford is rumored to be a star. He redshirted. Kaminsky played spot minutes for 2-years.

Gard took over a team last year that was 7-5 with losses to Western Illinois and UW-Milwaukee AT HOME. It's not like things were all roses.

Plus people say "once Gard doesn't have Bo's players." Gard recruited most of Bo's players over 15-years. So whose players are they?

Wisconsin's greatest returning asset could be their greatest weakness next year. Happ is going to go to the line a lot. If his FT shooting doesn't improve, WI is going to lose a lot of close ones and they won't finish top 4.

Also, Gard has to find a guard rotation to depend on. Lots of question marks in cheeseville, more than I can remember.
