With Eye on CFP, Notre Dame looks to Weaken their Schedule

Screw Notre Dame.

I can't stand those arrogant pricks. They're even worse than Nebraska.

Join a conference and play ball. It's just a few hours until 2018. Do it for the Gipper. He's probably sick of this independent bullshit as much as everybody else.

The college football world does not care about you.

Playing one week on the east coast then heading to California to play USC or Stanford then back to the Midwest then down to the Southeast is a grind of a schedule. Throw in a mid season game against Navy that has a very disciplined, very different style of offense is not easy. I wish people here could be honest and at least admit that program plays an extremely tough schedule. Traditional power schools, travel, it all takes its toll and it is hard to run the table.

We complain about those southern schools who never leave their own region then we blast Notre Dame? I don't get it. Hate them for not joining a conference when they asked multiple times to join the BIG way back? I don't get it.

We all cringe when our own Hawkeyes travel out West to play. We've died in the desert plenty of times and our Rose Bowl duds speak for themselves. Yet we bag on Notre Dame. I don't get it.

I think they deserve a little more respect for what they do other than "Join a conference!"

We bag on them because their fans are the biggest bunch of douche nozzles. Basically.

Notre Dame fans have learned humility over the past decade. Something Nebraska fans have failed to do.

Notre Dame has probably the most geographically diverse enrollment in the country (besides having to have about a 35 ACT to get in- except for jocks) so that is the main reason they have not joined a conference. I think they are in the ACC for basketball and other sports.

Its true that ND plays a national schedule with many made for TV intersectional matchups. Like ND, Iowa played 5 teams ranked in the Top 25 of the last CFP poll (3 in the top 10). And I bet Iowa’s not the only power 5 team to do so. ND also controls their schedule, which means they have the ability to minimize the number of tough back-to-back games. That’s a big benefit. Conference teams don’t have anywhere near that much control. Look at what happened to Penn State when they joined the Big Ten and lost control of their schedule.

ND does play some tough games that garner a lot of national attention, but I think some people confuse having a national schedule with having a really tough schedule. So, i agree that ND generally plays a good schedule, but I don’t believe it’s much (or any) tougher than what several Power 5 teams face within their conferences.

Can you even name 5 ND fans? I can name 5 schools that have bigger douche nozzle fans. You get no argument from me if you want to talk academics and arrogance at ND. They go hand in hand. Athletics and arrogance at ND have finally given way to field turf, jumbotrons, and luxury suites. Seems to me you are as stuck in the past as most of the 80+ year old Irish fans of whom you think you know.

I've known dozens of ND fans. I used to live in Chicago.

Do we need to take a trip over to a ND message board together? June is usually when they get it into gear, I suspect. They are the NCs of June every year.
