Not setting up offense in the last 2 minutes and putting starters back in the last 4 minutes to lose the game. Crowd and team goes nuts with the bench playing inspired ball and Fran flushes it down the crapper.

Team's offensive flow disappears completely. Call a frickin' TO and rally your kids, damnit! It's not like you haven't seen this story end a thousand times before. Even if I give you the benefit of the doubt for the last debacles, change it up for CS. What you're doing isn't working!

I think all the late losses over the years has this group tight at the end of games. Does anyone really feel any of the four seniors will make both free throws in a huge moment at the end of a game? And do they ever make the front end of a 1 and 1 when it matters?

Agreed and it's been like this in most close games!

It's one thing if you have to get the proven clutch players back in but these team obviously doesn't have those so leave the guys on the floor that just got the lead back from being down double digits the whole second half.

Yup, the fans and players deserves better than what Fran has been offering these last few weeks.

Just terrible in game decisions, leaves timeouts on the table again, substitutes the players that brought them back for the seniors who are playing terrible who have long history of chocking.

Fran is out coached by Crean, no easy feat to accomplish.

You people are idiots. Woodbury passed up 10 2 ft layups, missed fts, ball game.
That was one of the many problems. Fran had a lineup out there that brought us all the way back from 14 down and they were playing with high energy, defensively dialed in and then you switch them out and kills the vibe. Seniors miss big FT's at key moments. Then 2 straight possessions of nothing but standing around till 10 seconds and we get nothing. This loss is on the lots of people. The bench showed up finally and then the starters mail it in, Uhtoff played with an aggressive nature but he needs to do that all 40 minutes.

Fran needs to go back and show the team from 9min. left in the second half till the 3 minute mark and say this is how you need to play, but Fran also needs to point the finger at himself also.

Although I usually don't comment too much on this subject I really couldn't understand not using a to with around 2 to go. Very frustrating. Williams, Wagner, and baer really played well tonight and the hot hands were on the bench at the end.

Fran drew up a great 3 for Sapp and he air balled it by 2 fvcking feet. He also missed 2 clutch free throws. Not Frans fault. No wonder MSU didn't want him.

Fran also drew up a great play to get Jok open for the last shot. Wide open. Clang.

In Fran's defense, this is very true.

Edit: Just shouldn't have come down to that. He went away from the key players that were getting the job done - CW, AW, NB

No he didn't leave timeouts on table. Know wtf you are talking about.

My bad, should have specified he burned them trying to pull the game out with last second heroics - which almost worked.

Point being though there were a couple of times when he could have stemmed the tide and not put IA in that position IMO.

Indiana killed us in zone in Bloomington and struggled against man.....and they killed us in zone tonight and we were able to come back in man.

Little frustrating to not learn from mistakes and stubbornly stick to losing strategies.

The zone is frustrating but man in the first half gave them layup after layup. They shot over 50% in the first half because of our man and press.

This team just needs to bring major intensity on defense like they did a month ago.

Reminds me of Tom Davis with the zone. Have to play the zone. Team can't possibly play man to man for 40 minutes. I don't get it. Last years team was a really good zone team. This year they are bad in the zone. He really shouldn't play zone the rest of the year. This is a man to man team.

Oh man I finally understand why fans can be such jerks sometimes. You actually believe you DESERVE a winning team. And how can I disagree with all the hard work you put in.

Fran's honeymoon is over. Seat heating up.
Man, some of you guys are morons. Look around the country at other coaches. Would you rather have Groce, Pitino, Miles? Jesus, the stupidity when things aren't going Iowa's way is beyond absurd. Our seniors can't shoot the damn ball when it matters. They are not clutch, nor have they been their entire careers.

there is alot of truth in this post.
It's about peforming when it matters. And obviously this team can't mentally handle pressure situations.
Our guard play the last 6 games has doomed us....missed WIDE OPEN shots, missed FT, etc..all this has buried the Hawks this year. (Sigh) been beyond frustrated the last 6 games

Here you guys go again. Is losing 5 of 6 painful, yes. But blaming Fran for our shooting woes is ridiculous.

We shot 39% to Indiana's 51%. Jok was 3 of 11 for 29%, Clemmons was 5-15 for 30%, Uthoff was 5 of 17 for 29%, Uhl was 0 for 3. Fran can coach these kids but he can't shoot the frickin basketball for them. We had a lot of open looks, Indy made them, we did not.

When we beat MSU at Bresslin, we shot 70% in the first half, just like Indiana last night.

Much better effort last night and our bench did play better. Positives were Williams played well, although he shot 2 for 6. Baer made two threes last night but he has not shot well lately either. Wagner really hustled last night, but missed a couple tip-ins. All-in-all a better game than we've played for awhile. A couple more shots drop and our 1 and 5 record would have been a lot different.

Hopefully they can get on a run in the BIG and carry it over to the NCAA's.

I've said this since the '14 collapse:

Iowa will not finish in big types of games until they rid themselves of the mentally weak. This is the final class that has been a part of that and it's time they graduated. Next chapter needs to be here and it's now very close.
Wagner is the prime example of not 'giving a f#&$ what the magnitude is', but just bringing it the whole game. More of that and this program makes the next jump.

I agree with this. Whole new group of guys come in to the program or contribute significantly next year and a new mentality is what this program needs. "I don't give a d@mn, give me the ball" attitude this group of seniors lacked for 4 years. Next year's team won't be as good record wise but they'll be 100x more mentally strong and play tougher.

The bottom line is its a guards game and we have 2 starters that are great kids and very average players who can't shoot. Give us Yogi or Monte Morris and this is an elite 8 team at worst.

You rise and fall as a team. This team has done both this year. To bad they did it in the wrong order.

I don't know. We have a center with little or no offensive skills, a power forward with no power, a small forward with no inside game and a very inexperienced bench (in addition to the guard shortfalls mentioned). We don't have a "rim protector" and we don't really have anyone that can slash and finish at the rim. At the end of the season we may look back on this team as overachievers. They have accomplished more than I thought they would back in October.

Yes, you can say that this group of seniors failed because they couldn't finish games, or you could say they did a great job of hanging with, and defeating, teams with better natural talent. I think I could make either argument.

Hopefully we've hit rock bottom and these guys get over being afraid to win. In end of game situations we have no one who wants the ball-their terrified. When McCaffrey brought the starters back with 4:18 and a 1 point lead, I thought he should have left Wagner on the floor, but you can't fault FM for leaving the game in the hands of four seniors on senior night. A great bunch of young men, but it looks like their legacy will be of not having mental toughness.

Drama queens out in full force ... Holy cow ... So a few weeks ago when we hammered Michigan State for the second time in 9 days ... and we were slotted a potential #1 seed ... Fran was "the man" to all of us ... Now ... the team has definitely struggled the past few weeks and lost several close games ... And with that, some of you say this is Fran's fault and some even say he needs to go ...

Slow down people ... Right now Iowa is facing a confidence issue. Jok and Uthoff are not playing with confidence whatsoever ... This team rode the shoulders of Uthoff and Jok ... Yes, our bench play has been non existent ... but the core of this team's success was because of Uthoff and Jok ...

Fran didn't all of a sudden forget how to coach ... Fran can't make Woodbury immediately go back up with the ball after grabbing a rebound ... Fran can't make Uthoff's shots for him ...

Is coaching part of this? Of course it is. This is Fran's ship ... I am guessing Fran is more baffled than any of us arm chair quarterbacks ... Yes, we have lost several close games under Fran ...

At the end of the day ... Iowa basketball (overall) is fun again. We actually give a sh&^ again ... Not downplaying the disappointing end to this season ... just overall ... Iowa basketball is fun again ... And for about 10 years we couldn't say that with confidence ...
