Woman arrested after refusing to leave Iowa State Penitentiary

A woman was arrested at the Iowa State Penitentiary last week after police say she refused to leave the property and yelled at officers with a megaphone.
Jenni Lynn Corson, 50, of Davenport, was arrested by the Fort Madison Police Department and charged with trespassing-first offense, interference with official acts, and driving without a valid license.
At around 7:34 p.m. on Sept. 4, police say Corson drove her car onto the Iowa State Penitentiary parking lot and got out of the vehicle with her dog.

Staff at the prison asked her to leave but she refused, according to a criminal complaint.

When officers arrived at the scene and asked her to leave, she began to “rant about religious beliefs,” the complaint states.

Corson yelled at responding officers with a miniature megaphone while holding a poster, and refused to leave the property after being told she would be arrested if she did not leave on her own, yelling that “she was in charge,” according to the complaint.

After being placed under arrest, police say Corson refused officers’ multiple requests to identify herself, and was only identified after her state-issued ID card was located in her car, the complaint states.

While in custody, Corson pulled her hands out of her handcuffs on two separate occasions, according to the complaint.
