Woody 1-7 (several bunnies), 2 TO's. Added terrible liability on defense against versatile big guys.
Clemmons 0-8, 4 TO's. Out of sync all game. What happened to him down the stretch offensively? Just bad.
Gesell 1-5, 3 TO's and once again, not making shots or dictating the offense down the stretch.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe with his 8 assists, Gesell is 1 assist away from tying the great Andre Woolridge for the most in our single-season history. Most misleading statistic ever.

Can't wait to turn the page and forget about all the psych out games these guys have collectively lost over the years.

Woolrich averaged 192 assists for 3 seasons and averaged 16 points a game on top of that.

Once again, Iowa playing to the level of their competition.
They owned us today. If it weren't for the outstanding one man wrecking crew of Peter Jok, Illinois blows us out. We were outclassed early and then got back in the game when a team not used to winning got tight.

Sure would have been nice to have redshirted Olaseni his freshman year.(He had no business being out there that year) What a difference he would have made.

Did any of them give any reasonable excuse for their shitty play today? I'm not one to say players don't give their all, but how in the world (short of a Ronnie Harmon conspiracy) could they play so poorly? It wasn't even a case of shots rimming out, or they were just a hair off, they were absolutely pathetic, like they had never played against a D 1 opponent.

I also found it interesting that in the post-game interviews both Jok and Uthoff alluded to things like 'lack of energy' and 'lack of urgency.' I think Jok said something to the effect "...its do or die...if this doesn't motivate you then nothing will..." I'm sure I'm off on the exact quote but both my wife and I heard it and thought it was a not so subtle dig at the 3 seniors not named Uthoff.

Not sure what that last shot by Gesell was...FT jumper and 2ft to left of the basket. Followed that up by losing the ball to run out most of clock and then not able to inbounds the ball, game over without even getting a shot off.

Clemmons was off all game...should have been benched. That is on Fran.

I guess Woody decided he wanted to go out firing...took some jumpers, missed them all.

You pair Clemmons, gesell, Woody with two more players of similar ability/caliber and you are looking at the worst basketball team in B1G. Uthoff and Jok deserved better.

I doubt that there has ever been a time in the history of college BB where 3 of five starters ( who played over 90 minutes ) combined for less than 5 points. Ever. No proof of course just my gut instinct. This was the weakest Big in years and we blew a chance to cash in. ( Des Moines regional, etc. )
Said the same thing. What starting backcourt with 2 seniors scores 3 freaking points. Kind of amazing!

It's almost impossible to fathom that neither of these guys has improved in 2+ years. It would not bother me so much if anybody on the team acted like losing bothers them. It is way past gut check time....they don't have any.

I hope our record keepers have enough common sense to at least put an asterisk next to Gesell's name if he passes Andre. It's an insult to Woolridge to even be mentioned in the same sentence with him.

Well, Mike played all four years. Andre was a transfer from Nebraska so he obviously played way fewer games. Perhaps the asterisk could say that. Otherwise, records aren't based on a popularity contest.

It's a single season record, not a career record.

I am getting tired of the 'we're still a good team' lines from the seniors. Good teams do not continue to lose games and not be able to score at the end of halfs & games. Heck we did not even get a shot off on 2 possessions with 15 seconds. That's not being a good team.

Agree ... 5 pts from 3 seniors with what, 170 starts between 'em ??? Has to be a record.

Then when you throw in the choke factor in tight games ... very little production OR quality points.

Woolridge only played 3 years at Iowa so that stat is very misleading

Again....Mike now holds the SINGLE SEASON assist record. Not career assists. It has nothing to do with 3 years versus 4 years.

I won't be shedding tears for these 3.
Thank them for their contributions but serious flaws in all 3.
Woody has the heart but not the athletic ability.
MG can play defense and dish the rock but he couldn't hit a barn door with an elephant. My 6 year old daughter could probably shoot a better 12 footer.
AC is perhaps the biggest mystery. At times I think he is ready to take the next step and other times he just disappears. Very strange.
Overall a very average at best career footstamp for these three. Again I appreciate them helping resurrect the program from the dead, but time to turn the page and for God's sake find a PG who can shoot!!
