I thought a par was fine, until I came here and saw everyone else’s score.

I feel hard mode introduces an aspect of luck when you have words that have common suffixes. You often see people crash just due to bad luck. In non hard mode you can use a guess to strategically eliminate letters which has an element of skill (picking a throwaway word that eliminates multiple letters). No doubt hard mode is harder, but I would argue that we should play the tourney in regular mode as it reduces that luck factor. At the risk of causing a major kerfuffle on an otherwise lovely Saturday morning…
For the upcoming tournament, should we consider having two flites? One for those “officially” playing in hard mode and one for those not doing so?
There are probably pros one cons to either mode, so maybe it doesn't matter, but my impression is that hard mode creates an additional level of difficulty by placing restrictions on what letters you can use on subsequent shots, which can extend the time necessary to solve puzzles. On the other hand, hard mode sometimes leads to a solution faster by requiring correctly placed letters to remain in that position.
