What singer do you find to be bad that is in a popular or otherwise good band?

I was listening to the Smashing Pumpkins the other day and rememberd that Billy Corgan isn't actually a good singer but somehow fits perfect for that band.

Who ya got, HORT?

Eddie Vedder

Geddy Lee is always my goto there. I love the music of Rush, but I suffer through Geddy's voice for the other portions.
I hear you all on this, but at the same time, I have a really difficult time even imagining their music with someone singing an octave or two lower. And I say that as a guy who played drums in a band that played Dont Stop Believin' an octave or two lower, and actually made it work.

It's not the octave, it's the tone. Plenty of singers sing in his range and make it amazing. His tone is just like fingers on a chalkboard for me as well.

As for the posts about Axl. There was a time that he was very good for the musical style they were going after. But those days haven't been around in a long, long time.

Oh, and FTR, I'm not claiming Geddy Lee is a great singer...he isn't.

He was mediocre at best. But who cares. Kurt Cobain wasn't very good either. Both are favorites of mine.
Many singers are popular because they were fantastic songwriters and part of otherwise great bands. Both you mentioned were in that. I'd argue Geddy Lee was one of those as well although I don't know what he "did" creatively in Rush. Peart wrote the lyrics, Alex wrote most of the music. Geddy was just the bass player and somehow the "face" of the band. It's why I've never understood him as "the guy" other than just being in the right place at the right time.
