WOSER!!! University had to pause ALL season ticket sales for next years Women home games......

It might be easier for me to get tickets to a game in Champaign, Evanston, or West Lafayette than Iowa City next year. We'll need to see what the schedule is though. It's tough to travel during the week but I really want to get my family to see this team play at least once.

Does this happen anywhere else? UConn? Tennessee during the Summitt years? Does LSU sell out their womens games?

This is the final nail in the coffin of the debate about why Carver attendance lacking for men's bball games. Tipoff time, day of the week, weather, TV options etc are all thrown out the window........attendance is 100% based on the product on the court....
Carver does suck. But you’re not wrong, I wouldn’t attend a men’s game with Fran….but was hoping to buy season tickets for the women this next season, guess that won’t be happening!

There have been a few times in the past I thought maybe the women’s basketball team should get their own forum. Have an Iowa basketball forum and also an Iowa women’s basketball forum. But maybe this is their own forum, and they need to add a men’s basketball forum. 🤷‍♂️

Edit: I scrolled down to the bottom of the page and found this has already been discussed, and this point already presented. Sorry for the rehash.

Tickets sold and attendance are different things. Wrestling was sold out last season and a few meets weren't close to full.

You're right, but there are still real problems with CHA that affect the atmosphere.

Pretty sure they haven't "sold" any tickets, they're just taking people's money as a deposit and now have to figure out if everyone actually will get a ticket

Correct. I never did buy any of these excuses, as a lot of those things were still present 30 years ago when CHA was still full and rocking.

The men's team had great success in the 80's, and that enthusiasm carried over into the 90's. Then started to dwindle, especially during the Alford years, and beyond. The Lickliter era chased off any possible remaining enthusiasm. Fran has done a solid job, but this just proves that we need a good tournament run to draw the fans back.

Anyhow, I didn't want to make this another thread about the men's program when the women deserve their time in the sun. It's awesome that the fans are supporting them!

At a few of the women's games I've told my kids Carver used to be like this every Big 10 men's game. The early season there were some poorly attended games, but they used to sell out every Big10 game. I would occasionally get tickets for my b-day and remember it being such a huge treat. They are, of course, in disbelief but are huge fans of the atmosphere at the women's games........

Just wait until they start losing. Carver will be a tomb again.
They should be ok for as long as Clark sticks around. I'm guessing that will be 2 years. After that, it's anyone's guess as to what happens. It's going to be awfully hard to find someone in the same universe as CC. So, I'd expect we'll see some regression back to where Iowa was pre-CC.......top half of the BigTen, possible NCAA tournament.......Nothing to be ashamed of, but not Top-10 material......

Meh….. I think you’re leaving out some pretty important details. First off, of course having a big run and getting to the final four would help any team, men’s, women’s dogs, etc.…

But we’re not talking about a good basketball team here. We’re still talking about a good basketball team with one of the greatest college women’s basketball players of all time having at least one more year. I would guess people would like to see her in person.

I’ll tell you this if Clark graduated this year we wouldn’t have the same kind of ticket momentum.

And let’s remember the women have some defensive deficiencies too….Bluder did a masterful job of switching defenses with a lot of junk defense added in.

It’s a lot harder to get by with a piss poor defense on the men’s side.

But hey that’s for football season…..

Proving once again, it’s hard to win!!

This is also called front-running/fair weather fans. Everyone loves a winner!
100pct, women's bball and wrestling season tix are an amazing value but if wrestling was finishing 10-20th each year instead of near the top with a natty thrown in the attendance would be much different.

Still would be pretty good compared to rest of teams but not close to what it is now

It all depends on how recruiting goes.

CC is a once in a lifetime star for sure, but I think Iowa Women's Basketball is doing a really good job at putting themselves on the map for years to come.

The sell out of season tickets hasn’t happened yet. The discussion will be more relevant if/when that actually takes place.

The sellout will happen. I guess you can tell yourself that it won't, until it does.

This is why I strongly support NLI. The university is making a LOT of money… all because of one athlete.

Are the blue-hairs guaranteed prime seating during womens games like they are for mens games? If not, I would think that would help ticket sales as well. New ticket-buyers will be more willing to buy tickets if they have a chance to get prime seats.

Why should brand new supporters get the best seats?

That is backwards from how the entire industry works. In all sports.
