Would Ya Rather?..CUBS or HAWKS?

Except that Iowa is never going to win a national title in anything other than wrestling. The Rose at least appears to be a semi-attainable goal.

We have been closer than you might think a few times in my life already and I don't like that attitude. No reason we cant ever get there.

Didn’t we win a National Championship in field hockey? And OP, I’d take a Hawkeye win in rowing before a Cubs World Series.

if the cubs end up winning the whole thing, I hope the Cubs/Hawks portion of the fan base --- especially those who think Iowa needs to remain mediocre because they have historically been mediocre (with a good season sprinkled here and there every 5 years or so) finally realize that it is ok to expect more than what they traditionally have been

No need to choose...

I love the Hawkeyes, but I'd take Paul Rhoads at a lifetime contract if it meant the Cubs would win a World Series.
Except that by the end of this little investment into building a quality baseball franchise the Cubs have gotten themselves into, that could make it so that it is much rarer to see an Iowa major bowl/national title victory than a Cubs World Series title.

Juuuuuust sayin......................

Cub fans suck. There are a lot of them but most know very little about baseball. It is very "kitchy" to be a cub fan. But if you really follow baseball and take it seriously you will quickly move on to cheering for another team.

Any person that is not a Cubs fan should just refrain from answering this question, your answers make you look like morons. If you are a hawk fan and not a Cubs fan, we obviously know your answer. Your 2 cents on the issue is meaningless. Your smug answers all make you sound like a bunch of Packer or Cardinal fans and btw, just because you are a fan of either of those teams does not make you a more important or intelligent person like you all seem to believe. The team you cheer for just happens to be pretty good, you have nothing to do with it. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Now after all that, being a true die hard hawk fan and the same for the Cubs, this makes the question hard. If it's only a Rose Bowl win and not a national championship, I go with a Cubs World Series win. Change this to a national championship and my answer switches to the Hawks. Now I'm sure some of you will come up with what you think are very witty responses to this answer of mine but any die hard Hawk and Cubs fan would have a real dilemma with this. As much as my heart beats fast on Saturday afternoon watching every play for the Hawks, 107 years is a really hard thing to cope with.

I will also say this, last Saturday was a great day for all of us Hawk/Cubs fans, I was on cloud 9 and got totally stumbly drunk but think it was a half booze and half euphoria buzz. I just hope for the same thing this Saturday after we take a beat up team to that same Chicago area to push fat Pat's bunch around and then watch the Cubs win later in the day in LA or NY.

Go Hawks

Cubs for me and not even close. I'd take Cubs even if it meant Iowa never making a Rose Bowl in my lifetime.

Yep. I'm as big of a Hawk fan as the rest of you, but I love the Cubs just as much. All the people saying "no way" aren't Cubs fans or real Cubs fans for that matter. Cubs winning the World Series would be much cooler.

True fan police are out in full force! Especially enjoy the "Cubs fans aren't real baseball fans" stuff. Some of you people are just wonderful.

Not a Cubs fan (Royals) or much of a baseball guy. However if you asked me a US men's World Cup Championship or a NT I would really struggle to answer. I can sympathize.

The issue with the Hawkeye/Cub split fandom is different than any case I can think of. It's because snooty Chicago 'burb kids infuse everything Hawkeye with their Cub garbage that makes the dynamic unique. If you would keep your Chicago nonsense out of Hawkeye things, like message boards, then we wouldn't hate you (quite) as much.

We all like different teams in different sports, so we can relate. But most of us don't cross the streams like you lot do.

Let's look at it this way. Cardinals fan btw.

If StL hadn't won since 1908 or whatever it is, I'd still pick the Hawks. All about the home state for me.

In MLB, the odds are a helluva lot more "fair" for blind squirrel/acorn time at least once in a lifetime. Whereas if you're talking college football and Iowa, let's face it. No matter what anybody tells you, it IS a lot harder for a school like Iowa to win say a NC in today's age.

I still desire Iowa to win a Rose Bowl badly because that was the goal when I was growing up. But the 2009 season win over GT in the Orange - because it was one of the mythical 3 bowls growing up - pretty much mitigated that for me.

My Hawkeye football bucket list is as follows:
1) NC
2) Rose Bowl win
3) Rose Bowl win over USC, UCLA or Washington (revenge/gravitas)
4) Big 10 Championship game win over UM or fOSU (gravitas)
