Would you go to a dentist where virtually nobody is vaccinated?

I mentioned this in another thread a few weeks ago - apparently my dentist’s office is mostly unvaccinated. My wife’s hygienist said only a couple out of 15-20, which was news to her. None of the dentists are and sounds like the staff are mostly following their lead.

I have an appointment Friday - thinking of canceling and finding a new dentist.

Wnat would you do?

I'd drop that dentist yesterday. That would color my impression of everything about that dentist.

Likely yes but it would be another reason to hate them.

it’s already somewhat of a racket. Mine is like going to a car dealer with up selling additional items while you are in chair.

Sounds like you need a new dentist and should not assume all dentists are like that...because they’re not.

I think people in the medical field have been quietly far more cautious about the vaccine than anyone realizes (yes I know dentist office personnel are not technically medical, but close enough in this case).

Hopefully now that Pfizer is approved, most of them go get it.

But no I wouldn't hesitate to go to a place where most were unvaccinated. I'm vaccinated.

Well, that's letting the free market do the work.

I’m vaccinated also. The dentist is a nice enough guy and I know him casually outside the office through kids’ sports.

Just seems to me you would do everything possible to ensure your patients’ safety.

My hygienist is male and former EMT. He can't believe the stupidity of people not getting vaccinated. I will take the knowledge he's not taking unvaccinated breaths and blowing them in my open mouth while I'm unmasked over my former hygienist's hotness and unknown vaccination status.

My dentist is on staff at my hospital and we have mandatory vaccination for employment. Looks like I know I'm safe!

Don't know vaccine penetrance into the dental field but the physicians are high at 95%. It's the people in the medical field that are less scientifically inclined like nurses, techs, etc who are unvaxxed.

Because it reflects really poor;y on the dentist and staff if they can be vaccinated but choose not to. How do they justify that while offering the services they do the the public?

Oh, I forgot. Everyone knows everyone's personal situation and beliefs. Look- everyone is taking a risk...get the shot, dont get the shot...both risks. I am not going to look down on people in their profession because they have decided not to get it.

95% is high for anything. Maybe it's self reported 95%, but I highly doubt the validity of that number.

Or it could be the smartest people who have a science background looked at the risks and decided to get it. This has screwed up all our lives as physicians. I'm sure there are some private practice people not affiliated with inpatient care that probably aren't surveyed and decided not to. Anyone who works in a hospital has to be drunk or high not to see the impact of unvaccinated patients in their health system.

All you have to do is see one of the pulmonary critical care doctors in the doctor's lounge. Hell, one of them who is a friend but we aren't super close walked by me and looked like crap. I asked if he was ok and he sort of muttered he was just trying to get by.

I'm vaccinated, so if I found out that was the case at my dentist (and it very well might be), I wouldn't love it, but I probably wouldn't try to find some other dentist. My wife left our dentist because she was pissed at them about something, and hasn't found a better one yet. I've stuck with them so far and am satisfied, so I wouldn't be bothered enough by it to bolt them after 20 years. I certainly never considered trying to find out. They're all pretty wrapped up in masks and face shields. I went to them before vaccines were out and wasn't that worried about it.

It would reflect badly on them as far as intelligence or whatever, but they aren't scientists. All they ever do is clean my teeth, and it's not realistic for me to act like you need to be scientifically brilliant to scrape my teeth.

However, if I was having complex surgery, or being advised to have complex surgery, knowing the surgeon didn't believe in vaccines would give me pause about their general competence and expertise. I wouldn't be too worried about catching COVID, but would be worried about taking medical advice from someone that doesn't believe in vaccines.

Depends on who I interact with and if they at least have natural immunity, but probably not.

For sure find a new dentist. You have to question any medical professional that is unvaccinated. With the information available to them, something is off if he/she is not vaccinated. Especially, since they see at risk clients.
