Absolutely. I don't bet, so sure. It makes sense. It would be a self-imposed tax. You don't wanna pay it, don't bet, which would also be a good thing to do since I don't believe any individual, city, state, or nation has ever gambled itself to prosperity. If it worked like that, we'd all be rich.
All of the bettors from Nebraska supporting Iowa sports sounds good from me
Illinois is legal now. Kansas is not a bordering state, but is close enough in the southwest part of the state, and they are legal as well.Does any state that borders Iowa have legal sports gambling?
An example: I have head of people in the Quad Cities crossing the bridge from Illinois to Iowa, where they place their bet thru the app on their phone and then head back to Illinois.

No I would not endorse, want or vote for anything like this. What does one have to do with another? And that is a rhetorical question for me. Betting is about people taking a chance on some outcome.
Hookers and coke?Absolutely not! I spend my discretionary monies where I see fit. My choice.
If someone wants to donate to Flight Swarm Whatever, that's absolutely fine by me, but that is THEIR choice.
Hookers and blow. Get it right, dude.Hookers and coke?
I agree. We should also tax alcohol, tobacco, and junk food for NIL. Discretionary spending.Go for it.
No drain on my resources as I don't gamble.
People can waste their discretionary $$$$ however they see fit.
"Split evenly" Right,
Uh, sports betting IS legal in Missouri as of last November......Illinois is legal now. Kansas is not a bordering state, but is close enough in the southwest part of the state, and they are legal as well.
Lulz at Minnesota, Missouri, Wisconsin and Nebraska. Kinda surprised about the Dakotas, though.
"No, sports betting is not currently legal in Missouri. However, it has been legalized, and sportsbooks are expected to launch on December 1, 2025"Uh, sports betting IS legal in Missouri as of last November......![]()
Thank you. Outstanding post...... A pox on ALL their houses, greedy bastards all.To the degree that this would be better than regularly hitting up fans for straight donations, I could live with this. Plus, I don’t gamble, so I’m always cool with taxes that other people would have to pay.
On the other hand, it would be yet another example of the insanity that has accompanied NIL at every step of the way. What started as a legitimate argument that players should get a share of the revenues they are helping generate has turned into a quest to find more and more revenue sources, as those previously profiting from college sports are unwilling to share their wealth.
How about instead, we create a tax on sports betting, and then use the proceeds to create better opportunities for kids who aren’t already going to college for free?
I guess I should have said it HAS been legalized, a step that they had basically no choice in taking with it legal in Kansas AND Illinois, and those two crossover states butting up against Missouri's two largest cities in St Louis and KC."No, sports betting is not currently legal in Missouri. However, it has been legalized, and sportsbooks are expected to launch on December 1, 2025"
That's good to know............🙃
I don't support sports betting. So no.
Those kids are making their "owners" billions of dollars.F no. Tax people so kids can drive a corvette to practice?
I am sorry NIL has ruined fat lardass’s TV viewing.
None of my taxes are funding Iowa’s athletic department. They are self funded. Those kids are making their "owners" billions of dollars.
Have been charging seat premiums for a long time. Some threw tantrums and left their seats, but the stadium is still full.Any tax in Iowa or on sports gambling is not my problem, so I'm all for it.
In all seriousness, I don't agree with it. NIL $ should come from the University and those who directly support it financially (Swarm/Flight). Forcing people to contribute to NIL is absolute, total bullsh*t.
I don’t understand this response. I don’t deny anything you said, It just seems like a non sequitur to what I posted. What do seat premiums of season ticket holders have to do with forcing Iowans to pay for Iowa’s NIL?Have been charging seat premiums for a long time. Some threw tantrums and left their seats, but the stadium is still full.
as the deaf, dumb kid playing bingo, winning bingo and yelling bingo would say:...as those previously profiting from college sports are unwilling to share their wealth.
THIS!!!!as the deaf, dumb kid playing bingo, winning bingo and yelling bingo would say:
mingo!
this is the whole crux of the problem. the ones making the money off the kids should be paying the kids. not us, ever.
