Who else is involved?

Well if Sam Phillips is involved…

What are his statistics? What are his physical measurements?
per this article on Hawkeyes Wire: https://hawkeyeswire.usatoday.com/2...ortal-wr-sam-phillips/?itm_source=parsely-api

"The 5-foot-9, 185-pound redshirt junior from Cartersville, Ga, entered the transfer portal on Dec. 17 after an impressive 2024 campaign that saw him finish with 49 catches for three touchdowns and a career-high 803 yards. His performance also earned him first-team all-conference honors by the Southern Conference."

So not a tall guy but is very productive.

being hyperbolic and not willing to look it up I am willing to bet it is close to our entire WR corp last year
66 catches for 895 yards and 6 TDs for the Iowa receivers. (Math was quick and may be off by a few yards)

He’s a fast and twitchy WR which is what we need. We have tall WRs already

Seems short for a wide receiver,.. maybe he plays with a chip on his shoulder.

5'9 and 6 career TDs at all almighty Chattanooga?

You guys are acting like Iowa is getting another Jeremiah Smith

Kaden Wetjen is 5'10" and we can't get him the ball on offense. 5'9" is....I'll stop there.

On the field, Jacob Gill looked like he hadn't hit puberty yet and he's listed at 6'

For the hawks both Kaleb brown was only 5'10", Riley McCarron was 5'9". Antonio Brown was 5'10", hell even the top WR in the NFL in Jamar Chase is only 6'. Both of the top WRs in the transfer portal stand at a whopping 5'10" and 5'11" according to 247.

I'm aware big things can sometimes come in small packages.

Antonio Brown = Elite
Chase = Elite
Eric Singleton Jr = Elite in the making. Big games against the best programs.

Sam Phillips = Elite? At least we know he is confident in catching passes from quarterbacks, which is a great thing. I am pumped to get experienced college-level pass-catchers. I just wish it didn't come in a 5'9" package is all.

Barda had a solid point on Phillips, he stated last night that this is a "Lester type" of WR. Where the previous offense regime targeted height, Lester targets speed with the ability to catch.
Sounds good. That said, his film didn't look exceptionally "speedy". Didn't see him running away from a lot of people

Similarly to the QB room, our WR room has been a wasteland and I’d rather trust Lester’s evaluation than BF’s. Gill has been really the only true addition made by Lester to that room at this point and he was WR1 last year. Give Lester the keys and get who likes and can afford.
I agree with this.

When I first heard the name “Jacob Gill” and that he was transferring to Iowa from Northwestern, I was like, “Who?” Turns out he was Iowa’s must productive receiver (I assume the stats back that).

Phillips and Wetjen in the slots with Gronowsi's accuracy and progression is a problem for the 2nd level of a defense that has to account for Iowa's running backs and TEs plus a QB who knows when and how to run , Phillips is very quick and runs good routes and has good hands , His only strike is He is 5'9 . There is a reason both Cal and USC who know WRs are/were after Him
