WR Sam Phillips to Iowa?

Some of you morons worried about his height.

Probably the most dynamic football player to ever play the game is 5'10".

Antonio Brown also 5’10

Similarly to the QB room, our WR room has been a wasteland and I’d rather trust Lester’s evaluation than BF’s. Gill has been really the only true addition made by Lester to that room at this point and he was WR1 last year. Give Lester the keys and get who likes and can afford.
Yup. My only concern is what if the guy doing WR evaluations isn't Lester. What if the guy doing WR evaluations is our wide receiver coach, aka The Gift?

Correct, if Lester can drive the recruiting to getting WRs that first can get open better, even by another couple of feet, and then second they can make a move to get more yards, and third have good enough speed to get open deep or turn short passes into big gains then that is all that needs to be done.

Gill has shown the ability to do that. Buie and Howard have in there limited action, Wetjen and Vander Zee I think can do that.

And if we only have 3 main receivers lets play them more than the other guys and not use 5 or 6 receivers until they are all really good.

You guys naming HOF players like this kid from Chattanooga is on the same level. Either you are dumb or great acting like it.

I gurantee if i pull the average height for the top 10 WRs this year they are above 5'9"
I think you are missing the point. Let’s just let the kid get on campus and see if he can help out at a position that we desperately need. He seems to have a lot of potential and height isn’t everything.

No one said he is anywhere nearly as good as any of those players. He is not.

You suggested he is too short to play WR. That makes you an idiot.

So basically anyone who's never seen the field in black and gold is a better option?,...Some things never change around here.

Harold Fannin Jr (BGSU) 6'4
Nick Nash (SJSU) 6'3
Telairoa McMillan (ARIZ) 6'5
Travis Hunter (CO) 6'1
Coleman Owen (OH) 5'11
Jeremiah Smith (OSU) 6'3
Jaylin Noel (ISU) 5'10
Kyle WIlliams (WSU) 6'
Jayden Higgens (ISU) 6'4
Eric Rivers (FIU) 5'11

this is all on receiving yards (and some will change with the playoffs). Height certainly helps, but there are WR's that can produce that are under 6'. Keenan Allen, DeAndre Hopkins, Cordalle Patterson, Robert Woods, Davante Adams, Allen Robinson, Adam Theilen, Stefon Diggs, etc.

That name i threw out, remember where he went to college? Where he got drafted? Central Michigan, 6th round. Obviously nobody saw that kind of success coming.
Nobody’s arguing this kid is on that level…but to act like he can’t be any good because of his size is, as you said, dumb!

Sorry, cannot remember his name but a WR from Davenport West played at UNI and then later for the Oakland Raiders and he was 5'6" as I recall. Evidently he wasn't tall enough to play for the Hawks back in the Fry days.

Kenny Shedd.

God Damn....we sure are great at getting the scrubby leftovers. Christ...here we go again...another WR that will come in with no big conference talent and contribute nothing. Yawn. This football program is in big trouble.

There sure are a lot of schools recruiting this scrubby leftover.

Wes Welker/Julian Edelman type of WR would be stellar.

Amon-Ra St. Brown is listed at 6’ even but there’s no way he’s that.

We’ve seen WRs that have stone for hands (cough cough, Kaleb Brown) so I’d be ecstatic with a super dependable target. I am a big Jacob Gill fan, but even he dropped a critical pass in the bowl game when we needed a first down.

Good grief man, a lot of good players at the FCS move up and are successful at the FBS level, I mean look what Indiana did this year with a bunch of guys from an FCS school.
