Finally got the rankings finished up late last night after the outage that occurred yesterday. Anyway...

In the wrestler rankings, not much changes except Zain Retherford moves into the #1 spot at 149 after another dominating performance over a top 10 opponent.

Not many changes in the team rankings this week, those top 3 look awfully close. Looking at these team rankings, it's becoming more-and-more apparent that they are skewed toward dual scoring instead of tournament scoring. In the next few weeks, I'll work on implementing a tournament scoring model to give a better idea now that we are getting closer to conference tournaments, and the national tournament.

By the way, I made a pretty good change last night that I, and others feel is long overdue. You can now change ALL of the starters for a team at the same time. From either the roster, depth chart, elgibility breakdown, or schedule pages for a team, there is a link on the left for "Update Starters". There, you can select the starter at each weight and save in one shot.

Let me know your thoughts on this change, and any other future enhancement you'd like to see in the site.

Thanks

So, here are my thoughts on how to do tournament scoring...To factor bonus points:

1st place gets 5 wins
2nd place gets 4 wins
3rd place gets 5 wins
4th place gets 4 wins
5th place gets 6 wins
6th place gets 5 wins
7th place gets 4 wins
8th place gets 3 wins
r12 gets 3 wins

Those look to be close to the amount of wins a wrestler will get for each placement.

Now, since I have stats for all matches throughout the season, I know what each wrestlers bonus percentage is per match won.

Next, take the maximum number of bonus points per match (2), multiplied by the wrestlers bonus percentage, to get possible bonus per match, then multiply that by the number of wins they would potentially get.

I have NOT run the numbers yet to see what that would look like for each wrestler, but it sounds like it would be pretty accurate from a high level.

Then you can add in the average number of advancement points per placement, plus placement points and you get a pretty good idea for each wrestler.

For advancement points, it's also pretty easy to calculate
1st and 2nd get (is it 4 or 5 advancement)
3rd gets ....
4th....
R12 gets ....
R16 get ....
everyone else (ranked 17 thru 33rd) get an average of 1

Let me know your thoughts on this model.

I only question the bonus points. During the season they get to wrestle a lot of lower-tier guys, whereas at Nationals they're mainly wrestler the toughest guys in the country. I don't have any stats on this, but I would think bonus points are scored at a lower % at Nationals than during the season.

Very true, depending on what they look like (I could go back and compare previous tournaments) probably need to do another multiplier just because of the harder competition. Sure Dieringer will probably do the same, but guys in the 4th to 16th range probably won't bonus much, if at all.

1 or 2 get 4 advancement
3rd gets 3.5, unless you lose first round. Semi final losers would get 3 on front side, and .5 on the back side. Qtr final losers would get 2 on the front and 1.5 on the back, 2nd round losers would get 1 on the front and 2.5 on the back, first round losers get zero on the front and 3 on the back (7 matches, but the 7th is 3rd place match so no adv point)
