St John was at VT with Dresser for a few years before coming over, so I wouldn't use him as a shot across Iowa's bow. I hear you tho.

An all Iowa staff featuring Iowa golden boy Metcalf is precisely that.

...may not have some of the necessities; Al Campanis (Circa, 1987).

Uh...dude. Really?

Someone on the ISU board (crabby maybe) posted results from Jackson's last 5 years and Dresser's results so far and there was no difference. Jackson maybe slightly better.

“Trajectory” is a key element in such analysis.

So... sounds like Dresser is going to be there for a few years and then be forced out by Carr?

🤔
Carr isn't the CEO type to run a program imo.

Dresser is another ISU hire that fell into a perfect situation. Success starved AD and fans envious of Iowa. What better hire than an ex Iowa staff?

I don't entirely blame KJ for the poor/mediocre results he had. After all, by reports, he was Option 4 after Terry, Steiner, and one other whose name escapes me turned down the job offer. Competing in this State against a perennial juggarnaut like the Hawks is a daunting challenge.

That said..............I LOVE IT!

I think in the room DSJ and Brett are excellent. The problem seems to be getting top level kids into the room. I would guess they are not strong recruiters. Some people are natural salesmen and some are not. With that coaching staff, they have a good product to sell. They just do not seem to be getting it done. Maybe, they do not believe in the product. Let's face it, they are not winning many recruiting battles.

As far as recruiting. ISU has a whole bunch of "participation " medals and a couple "3rd place" ribbons.

That's not bad for a program in it's 5th year with the present staff, right?

Meh. Hopefully MU will allow KJ, as an assistant, to work in areas that he excels.
Don't get me wrong. I wanted him to do better than Carl at that job, but the results are the results. You make good points about skills, so I hope that Michigan's freestyle results give KJ the success he lacked at ISU.

He’s not the head coach and I’m not sure freestyle results are what they’re hoping for in a folk style program.

I think ping was implying that after Carr wins his 4th title he would become an assistant coach and then force Dresser into retirement just to leave the program 3 years later for greener pastures.

The KJ hire doesn’t do much for me. His position at USA wrestling was more administrative. The success of cadet and junior world teams is because of the awesome clubs we have popping up all over the country. He oversaw some camps and travel. Feels like more flash than substance with this hire.

It doesn’t make sense from here, either. But I don’t know specifics or reasoning involved.

In the short term, it helps some in recruiting as he knows many of the current top Cadets and Juniors. In the long term, not so sure.
