Sorry fellas but this is not right. Iowa goes 12-0, best record ib the conference, and has one consensus 1st team all big ten selection? Absolute bullshit! Josey jewel should've been consensus first team at linebacker and Austin Blythe should've been consensus at center. Absolute crock of shit while Michigan state and Ohio state litter the teams. Maybe a blessing in disguise going into the weekend to piss some guys off. But it's not right at all.

I thought I heard on the radio that King was the only consensus defensive all big ten player by the media.

I don't disagree that the sum is greater than the parts bit you don't go 12-0 and run the table without some guys having some big time seasons and they deserve to be rewarded. Blythe and jewel EARNED first team status. Jack Allen is a good center but there ain't ever gonna be a day I would trade Blythe for Allen. The good news is we get to prove we're better than them on Saturday. I'm pissed right now for our boys. Those team selections are absolute jokes! F@#$ them all! Let's go win the whole damn thing and thumb our noses at all the assholes across the country that doubt us!

I agree. But I figured out long ago that the most deserving often go unrewarded, and not only in college football. One of the most powerful examples of this sad reality is this: Todd Lickliter was named National Coach of the Year just before he came to Iowa. That's really all you need to know about the fairness and value of subjective awards. But no, that doesn't make it right.

How about Canzeri only 3rd team?

Rushing Yards
Rank Player Team G Rushes Yds Yds/G Avg TD Long
1 E. Elliott OhioSt 12 262 1672 139.3 6.4 19 80
2 J. Jackson NW 12 298 1344 112.0 4.5 4 62
3 J. Howard Ind 9 196 1213 134.8 6.2 9 37
4 S. Barkley PSU 10 165 1007 100.7 6.1 7 56
5 J. Canzeri Iowa 10 176 964 96.4 5.5 12 75

35 less yards rushing but 5 more rushing TD's then Barkley. Receiving yards were about a wash, both with 1 TD apiece. Canzeri has a few more yards.

Blythe deserved first team, but Allen from MSU probably did too. Both guys are at or near the top in the nation at the position.

Then put them both on first team and chit out a guard. If a guy is deserving he should be rewarded. I won't argue Allen as a good player. I think Blythe is better and he is on the 12-0 football team. He should've got the nod. Same with josey jewel over pretty from Ohio state.
There's an obvious bias to the eat division teams which is flat wrong when you consider the west beat the east head to head this year.

Hard to argue with the top 4. Had Canzeri not missed 3 games, he most likely would have been placed ahead of Barkley. I have a problem with Jackson ahead of Howard. Howard is a stud and I'll bet he has the best NFL career out of this group.

With 14 teams, it's hard to get very many players on the first team unless they are really outstanding. Outside of King, Iowa really doesn't have any super stars. Just a great group of very good players playing each week like their life depends on it.

Perhaps it would make sense to choose ALL DIVISION teams, and then from those choose ALL CONFERENCE teams. I mean, the divisions exist, and there are seven teams in each. Just a thought.

I hope they change our entrance song from Back in Black to the Theme From ROCKY!!!!

YO ADRIAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

see, to these people who rig this stuff, I mean, choose this stuff, Iowa played basically a women's volleyball team and beat them, then they beat a wheelchair basketball team, then they beat an old lady's tennis tournament back up squad. so no, denied

How about 14 ALL TEAM teams before getting to divisional teams. Better yet, make sure everyone gets named to a PARTICIPATOR TEAM. Problem solved.

Hey, OC Hawk, are you always a smart ass, or just on message boards? But your response sure as hell was insightful. I suspect you'll be getting a call from the World Wide Leader at any moment. You'd fit right in...a person of unfounded opinion devoid of intelligence or common sense. Well played. LOL

BTW: There used to be 10 teams in the Big Ten. Now there are 7 in each division. They give a trophy...did you know that?...to the team that wins the DIVISION. That team is known as the DIVISION CHAMPION. Are you following? So that being the case, it might make sense to name all-division teams and use those selections to determine all-Big Ten honors. Get it?

OK, back to kiddie table, pal.

This isnt a team made up of superstars. The reason Iowa is 12-0 is because we have a bunch of solid football players playing as one. I mean we have a starting WR that enjoys laying dudes out downfield to open up big runs more then he likes catching the ball. Where else do you find a WR like that?

I really get the feeling this team could care less about those sorts of things as long as the numbers in the left hand record column keeps growing.

Don't think there is much to argue about with the all conference teams except Krieger-Coble should have at least been an honorable mention. He had a great year both as a blocker and receiver.

Not surprising. Iowa is not a team of stars.
Agree that Blythe deserved a first team nod.

This is what should have happened...both the MSU and Iowa centers were deserving of first team...I don't think there is any doubt Blythe has been our most consistent, reliable and important lineman all year. Not to take anything away from Walsh, but Blythe deserved to be on that first team.

Also think HKC got robbed, to not even get honorable mention is unfortunate. His numbers compare favorably with the guys on the 2nd and 3rd teams...fewer touchdowns but yardage is similar not to mention I can't imagine a better blocking TE out of that group than HKC.

Good point. Look at a replay of one of Canzeri's TD runs from the Nebby game. An Iowa WR takes a Husker defender clear out of bounds on a block to help spring that play...awesome stuff!

This is fuel for our game on Sat.

It's ironic that all state selections are about how well your team does. Always been that way. I was 1st team all conference for 3 years, dominated the position. Senior year I believe i led not only nose guard tackles but any position in tackles ( in state) but since our team wasn't in playoffs ( 1 loss back then and not in(late 80s)) I only got honorable mention all state. Was pissed about it. I can imagine how these players feel when the Team even wins and they aren't getting first team!!

I get the fact that our group is team first and the sum is greater than the parts. I totally understand that and that is why we're 12-0. But when you go 12-0, some people had to have fantastic seasons and that team dwarves some recognition at the end. The all conference teams were utter nonsense. I wouldn't trade Blythe for any center in the country. I wouldn't trade Krieger coble for any tight end in the country. I don't want anyone patrolling the middle of my defense other than josey jewel and I don't want any players in my back end other than king, Lomax, and Taylor. There's a reason we're 12-0 it's because we got some very talented football playerswho play exceptionally well together. Fuel to the fire is right. Kick Sparty's ass on Saturday and then go raise holy hell in the playoff and pull a Matt Roth at the end and flip off the entire nation who doubted you and underestimated you ALL season long
