WVU student section was ready to roll yesterday...here was their release, which I happened to see on Twitter. Maybe the hawks nest has something similar, but this is pretty impressive organization, and it's done in fun, not just mean like Maryland was. Side note - My wife went to WVU, and sporting events were included in "Student Fees" everyone paid, so they just had to show up early enough to get a ticket. Normally full student section.

Hope they send this out in digital format. Otherwise what a big waste of paper.

Nader had a decent game despite the students' chanting his name every time he screwed up or missed a shot... but overall, that is the kind of organization a student section needs. Just the right amount of humor (some stuff isn't funny but whatever) and real information.

Our very own Hawk's Nest used to put one of these out every game I believe during the Alford years. Of course that would require some ambition.

Have at it.
Now that I think about it, I am not so sure that our illustrious administration may have put the kabosh to this. Might have thought it was over the top or unsportsmanlike. Anybody know?

How does Iowa work? Do the students have to buy season tickets and they are guaranteed a seat in Carver? If that's the case I would like to see Iowa do it differently. Instead of giving the students the 3 full sections. Cut it down and make it a lottery type of deal. They pay in and if they get selected they get tickets or just make it all GA for students. First come first serve basis.

I just hate how there are so many open seats in the student sections (but to be honest if your in rows 25+ what's the point of being in the student section.

I don't know all the answers, but I do know students have to buy season tix (at least for football and MBB). A MBB season ticket is listed as $100 for students. It was the early 2000's when my wife went to WVU, but I want to say her "student fees" were around $125, and all sporting events were "free." Sure, it sounds like making students pay for something they may not want, but this is in a situation where a single book for 1 class can cost north of $200. It's something to consider, but I imagine the red tape involved would be a lot, especially considering our athletic department is self-funded...

Students buy full-season tickets and are guaranteed a seat in the student section. However, the first people to arrive get their pick of seat. If the student arrives late, they get stuck in the dark towards the top of the arena and have an obstructed view. I haven't been to Carver in a few years, but if I remember right there is a big USA flag that hangs over and partially obstructs the view of people sitting in the upper rows of the student section.
