What a weekend! If every season is a new book and every game another chapter, the last chapter of this book produced an exhilarating finish to a story with flourishes of triumph and tragedy in between. OK, list "Iowa Hawkeye Football 2017" on Amazon and restrict reviews to Iowa fans only - what happens? I believe that you end up at a 2.5 Star Rating with book reviews, overall, slightly tilted to the negative. The review section would be entertaining for sure, including more than a few nasty comments regarding the author who also wrote the 18 prior books in this NF series.
I predicted a 9-3 record this season so 7-5 is somewhat disappointing. @Northwestern ranks up there with most disappointing for me even though Wisconsin turned into a 3 hour funeral. ISU- yeah man, OSU was a fantastic surprise, and Nebraska was an all-you-can-eat gourmet buffet followed by a free $50 tab at the lounge.
My Amazon review would be upbeat, more or less, because IMO the badly written parts did not ruin the entire story. The good parts were really good and there is plenty of reasons to anticipate that the main characters returning for next year's tale will improve the script. My pre-season predictions usually prove to be too optimistic but every once in a while I'm pleasantly surprised that my expectations were too low. Like you, I'll be wondering about the next edition from now until next September.
A quick note: I will post a Y/N season summary -probably some time later today - but in the mean time, on to this week's contest results.........
There was a tie for high score this week and it was shared by LinnCounty (8-2) and HawkHeel3 (8-2). The winner would be judged on proximity to Iowa's rush total against the Huskers under the Tie-breaker which ended up being a whopping 313 yards.
Congratulations to LinnCounty (TB 246) who, like the Hawks, closed out the season with a win. Runner-up HawkHeel3 (TB 150) finishes the season strong but, like the rest of us, did not fully appreciate the godawful stink that is the Husker defense.
