You are BF (minus the press box tirade) on Sat, what's your gameplan?

Stanley single-handedly lost us the Michigan State game. How many wide open receivers has he overthrown now? I lost count when it got into triple digits.

I'm not normally the guy who digs on QB1, but the reason teams can put 7 in the box against us is because they know there's no threat downfield.

Stanley has been a bright spot in an otherwise lackluster year. Dude is a first year starter who got very little game experience last year. He has a running game that struggles to go anywhere and pass blocking, that while improved from last year, still isnt excellent. He also has receivers who lack speed and tend to drop more passes than they should. Not the greatest recipe for a successful qb but all hes done is throw 17 touchdowns and only 4 picks, two of which, as another poster pointed out, weren't his fault. Not sure what you where expecting but stanley has far exceeded my expectations

Sarcasm, right? Otherwise you're an idiot. So he's completed 131 of 228 passes and also overthrown 100 passes???

If you look at only statistics, yes he looks fantastic. Watching him in a game, when it counts, he is not quite ready for prime time. I'm hoping poise comes with time, but it doesn't seem to be. His fumble deep in MSU territory, multiple overthrown receivers, throwing 100 mph fastball to a receiver 12 feet away...

I've said this ever since GD took over, and it's still an issue. A successful offense (unless you can just out-athlete the other team) needs to have balance. This isn't just run/pass balance in general. It's balance from each formation in the form of run vs pass as well as balance in the form of what part of the field you attack (left, right, short, medium, deep). This keeps a defense honest and spreads them out.

If the defense can rule out type of play, or where it's going, based solely on the formation, you've made life really easy on the D. Other than obvious passing situations due to down/distance, the D should be guessing on pass vs run and to where on every play. If they're not, you're giving up the single biggest advantage you have as the team calling the plays. You need the defense to be reactive, not proactive.

This whole post was spot on, but the bolded part in particular is exactly what's wrong with Iowa's offense. For all I care, we only need about 4 formations as long as there are MULTIPLE plays that come out of them and we can audible from one to the other in the same formation. I cannot stand it that defenses are still shifting right to where we want to go and many times the outside LB or a safety sucking up is enthusiastically pointing to where the play is headed. How our staff can be so good at some things and so terrible at others boggles the mind.

That usually only works when you have a quarterback. Stanley has been nothing but a deer in the headlights this year. If we try to establish the passing game, we lose. If we try to establish the run, we lose. The only way I see winning this game is with a combination of breaking a few huge plays and defensive or special teams scores.
Really? You think Stanleys the problem with Iowa's offense? Don't know quite how to respond to that. Wow...................

Which has more to do with the downfield threats then the guy throwing the ball. Guys dropping balls left and right last week. ISM lets a perfect 35 to 40yd pass bounce off his hands, up into his face mask, and to the defender for an interception. The week before, Fant drops a pass in OT, that hit him right between the numbers, with no one within 5 yards of him. Stanley's touch on the long ball has improved dramatically the last couple of games. He has only played 8 college games to this point, and is just starting to get in a groove with his young receivers.

Quote "Let me be the first to go out on a limb and guess that OSU has done some preparation this week for stopping the run".

Would OSU even need to do any prep for stopping "our" running game??
How long does it take to say, "Okay guys. We're putting 9 in the box"?

Nate has played hundreds of downs and you are talking about maybe twenty mistakes. Stats don't say everything but they do say a lot. A QB who has a 4:1 TD:Int ratio is playing well.

Happily. Stanley played a near perfect game today. That’s the QB I’ve been hoping to see all year. I’m eating crow, and it tastes like Buckeyes tears.

You're blind if you've only seen a crappy QB before today
