That was one of the most frustrating games I've ever watched. This team will show their great potential for short spurts then they will play like absolute morons for long stretches. I just want to pull my hair out watching them
We had the momentum. Dix was playing good and he goes to the bench... I agree it's not a lot but losing this way has been a bad pattern this year.
We have some decent pieces. We have a COACHING problem.

PSU shot 31 free throws despite half of their shots being 3s. To be fair they got about 8 of those from Iowa fouling for time. Iowa had 10 free throws despite shooting only 15 3s and almost all of their points coming in the paint.
12 made 3's and 25 made free throws is tough to overcome. Most 3's were wide open out of Iowa's crap zone defense. We're too slow to close out three point shooters, need to stay in man D.

Playing 4 forwards and 1 guard is a problem. Payton seems like he is good for 2 or 3 poor passing decisions per game. Pryce looked better than Payton today.
PG wise we don't have much beyond Perks. Harden looks like he can run a team, but he's never going to be a tough, athletic PG---just too small. Bowen looks pretty poor.
And we close out with hands down plus everyone drives our zone with ease
If Harding was unavailable in the second half because of his ankle injury, why put him in with 45 seconds left in the game. Fran needs to step aside during the games and let his assistances manage the games because he makes no sense on any of his game management decisions. This game was winnable until his 5 he put on the court pissed the game away.
It's obvious Iowa doesn't give two shits about playing defense anyways, so who cares if Harding is undersized. The offense straight up looks better with him out there and he's the only person with enough foot speed who can stay in front of an opposing guard.
I'm fine with watching a team lose... w/e... but it is maddening watching the lineups being trotted out there and it doesn't even look like they spend 5 minutes coaching defense. Watching Iowa play defense is like watching a BF coached offense. It's not just the X's and O's, they are just fundamentally some of the worst defenders I've ever seen.
This was the most one sided reffing job Ive seen this year. They flailed at the slightest contact and got every call, and got away with tons of bumps and grabs on defense. Surprised Fran didnt go off.
Maybe Iowa should nut up and play physical defense. This excuse is so tired at this point. Iowa plays pansy ass, slow footed, soft defense and it's been their Achilles heel for a long time now. They can't match physicality and it consistently costs them games.
Feels a bit like the Tom Izzo approach. Lots of contact particularly off the ball. Refs won't be willing to call fouls every possession.
Iowa shot 56% for the game. That SHOULD win you the game.

Pryce looks like a better ball handler and little bit qucker than Payton. Yes, somewhat similar to Dix. We have a lot of good pieces on this team, but when you put it all together they don't get it done on boards or defense, and 3pt shooting is basically Payton and the other guys are low volume/so so 3pt shooters.
We are what our record says we are....below average B1G team.
Get our resident college official in here to confer the poorly officiated game.
Fran also benched 2 of his best 3 players, who end up with 2 and 3 fouls, limiting them to half the game, although they are his 2nd and 3rd best players.
