Report out there that Iowa will be hosting a portal DT for an offficial visit.

Working on hashing out the details out the details — when his visit is, other schools he’ll consider, etc. — but for the moment, I can confirm Central Michigan DT, Jonah Pace will be visiting campus for an official.

1 year of eligibility remaining.

** OFFICIAL Dolphins @ Texans Game Day Thread **

The 6-7 Miami Dolphins travel to Houston today to face a rested 8-5 Texans squad coming off a BYE week. The game is at 1 p.m. eastern on CBS.

Miami had to go to overtime to defeat the Jets last week at home. They are two games out of the final playoffs spot with four weeks remaining. If the Dolphins win out, they have about a 90 percent chance according to the NY Times' playoff predictor. But any one loss drops their chances down to about a 1-in-20 proposition. A loss today won't be automatic elimination, but it's pretty darn close.

After Houston, Miami is home against the 49ers and then cold-weather road games against the Browns and the Jets to close out the season.

The Dolphins have won four of their past five games and Tua is playing out of his mind. Since his late October return from concussion protocol, he's thrown 15 TDs and only one INT. But Houston's defense is stout, ranked second in the league for both interceptions and sacks.

Houston enters as 2.5-point favorites, with the over/under set at 46.5. While analysts expect a tightly contested game, many believe Miami has the potential to pull off an upset, especially if Tagovailoa continues his strong form. Both teams recognize the stakes, intensifying the anticipation for this pivotal matchup.

OT: Nice "moral victory," Illinois

The Illini just aren't good enough, talented enough, or tough enough to get a win @ home, dropping a game to Tennessee yesterday, literally at the last second. The Illini allowed Tenn to dribble the ball the length of the floor and hit a game-winning layup as time expired. I don't know how Illinois is gonna be an NCAA team with such poor defense with the game on the line.

BTW: Tennessee, ranked #1, remains undefeated at 10-0. But what a chance the Illini blew. They clearly have work to do. Moral victories ain't gonna getcha to the NCAA. (Did I do that right?) ;)

Christmas present help

The internets didn’t help me.

Pokemon cards, for an 11yo. Don’t know anything about these, - want to spend $50-100 so he has a bunch of packs to open- anyone have kids into this can can guide me? Almost pulled the trigger on some packs from amazon, but reviews hinted some packs weren’t sealed so gonna try and pick up something at Best Buy or target?

Gold: wanted to get the kids/nephews either a cool gold coin, or nugget, as stocking stuffers. Anyone buy gold online know a good site; or do like local jewelers do this?

Recruits in action: Dec 14– RESULTS

It is great to be an Iowa Wrestling fan.

Go Hawks!

I mean, this is pretty typical Fran ball, right?

iowa ran out of gas at the end. No fresh bodies down the stretch. Stupid.

Payton Sandfort shouldn’t have the green light to chuck up off-balanced 3s whenever he wants. He should have gotten the Joe Touissant treatment in the second half.

Iowa State shot uncharacteristically poor from 3 in the 1st half. Iowa was red hot and still couldn’t manage to go into the half up double digits.

Iowa is still trash on the glass. Absolutely trash. Can’t win anything of consequence when you can’t rebound.

Yes, Iowa State is good, but I don’t see much difference in talent from a lot of Hoiberg years based off this game. They are active defensively, but Iowa got pretty much any shot they wanted until they got gassed at the end. So, I don’t know. We’ll see how Iowa State does in the tournament. Hard to know in December.

I will say for my first real taste of Iowa basketball this year I was surprised they are much better athletically than I would have guessed. I’m not saying they’re great, but they are much better than what we’re used to. I will also say Brock Harding is much better than I expected.

So, yeah, valiant effort, and kudos to the kids for hanging tough, but in my view this was pretty much BAU for Fran ball.
