The Ricky Stanzi saga

Or when I learned to hate Northwestern and B1G officiating.

The 2010 Orange Bowl mentioned in several bowl-related threads prompted a visit to the online archives and brought back a flood of memories of when Kirk Ferentz actually had a decent football teams.

One that stands out is the 2009 squad that was 9-0 and potentially headed to an undefeated season when the lowly Wildcats came to town. Iowa had jumped out to a 10-0 lead and the defense had forced a punt which put the Hawks at their own 6.

On second down Ricky Stanzi ran a naked bootleg which was read perfectly by the Northwestern defense. Corey Wooten pulled Stanzi down awkwardly in the end zone. Stanzi fumbled and Northwestern recovered for the touchdown. What was worse, Stanzi lay on the ground in great pain, having severely injured his right ankle. He left the game and freshman James Vandenberg took over but was a less than adequate replacement and Iowa lost. Worse, Stanzi required surgery and was out for the season.

What was especially maddening was that during the sack Stanzi’s facemask was grabbed, twisting his head and body and possibly contributing to Stanzi’s injury.

The foul which would have negated the sack and the NW touchdown was totally missed by the Big Ten officials.

Obama 'forgot our fight for right to vote' after scolding Black voters against Harris

NFL icon Herschel Walker spoke out against former president Obama for his recent controversial comments about Black men not supporting Kamala Harris.

During a recent campaign stop for Harris in Pittsburgh on Thursday, Obama addressed the vice president's dwindling support among Black voters, especially Black men.

"Now, I also want to say that that seems to be more pronounced with the brothers. So if you don't mind, just for a second, I've got to speak to y’all and say that when you have a choice, that is this clean: When on the one hand, you have somebody who grew up like you, went to college with you, understands the struggles [and the] pain and joy that comes from those experience," Obama said.

Obama even suggested that these voters aren't currently supporting Harris because she is a woman. Obama did not at any point acknowledge that the lesser support may be because of her record as vice president and deeper career history as a prosecutor.

"I’m speaking to men directly — part of it makes me think that, well, you just aren’t feeling the idea of having a woman as president, and you’re coming up with other alternatives and other reasons for that," Obama said.

Walker is one of many public figures, on both sides of partisan lines, who have criticized Obama for his comments this week.

[Barack Obama], you forgot how hard we fought for our right to vote! Telling us how to vote based on color is a step backward. The bad policies of Biden/Harris have hurt us all. We need unity brother, not division!" Walker wrote in a post on X on Saturday.

Walker is a former all-American football running back who played in the NFL for 12 seasons. Prior to that, he played for the upstart USFL league that intended to compete with the NFL. Former president Trump was an investor in the league and the owner of the league's New Jersey Generals franchise, that Walker played for.

Walker also has a brief history of political interactions with Obama as well. The former president went on a long tirade mocking the former running back during a speech in Georgia ahead of the 2022 midterm elections. Obama said that Walker was "someone who carries around a phony badge and says he is in law enforcement like a kid playing cops and robbers," and has a "habit of not telling the truth." Obama even suggested that Walker would be so loyal to Trump, "it means he is not going to be really thinking about you or your needs."

Walker pushed back on Obama’s comments in a statement days later.

"President Obama was here last night. He said I’m a celebrity. He got that one wrong, didn’t he? I’m not a celebrity, I’m a warrior for God," Walker said. "He needs some help, because he got with the wrong horse. Senator Warnock is the wrong horse. You know he can’t do the job, and it’s time for him to leave."
Now, Walker has taken another shot at Obama in a week of very poor press for the 44th president.

Obama has also been criticized by prominent figures on the left, including Bill Maher, former Democratic Ohio state Sen. Nina Turner and Former BLM activist Xaviaer DuRousseau, who said in a Fox News interview this week that Harris has been struggling with Black men because of her "lack of accomplishments." DuRousseau also said Obama's were "offensive."

"It's absolutely disrespectful, and we're done with Obama," DuRousseau said. "Black men are sick of being reduced to being forced to think with our skin color."

Obama’s comments followed a September 30 Pew Research poll finding that only 84 percent of Black people said they were planning to vote for Kamala Harris for president, while 13 percent said they were backing Trump. By contrast, Joe Biden won 92 percent of the Black vote in 2020.

It's the Obama's of the world that truly want to keep black men in chains, they preach just do what we tell you to do.

Sad truly sad.

Centennial Running Back Braeden Jackson - son of former Buffalo Bills RB, Fred Jackson

Braeden impressed me with his play on Friday night. Then I found out he was the son of former Bills running back, Fred Jackson. Story on having his dad as a coach, his recruitment with Iowa, observations from Friday, and more.

STORY:

The Bowl Game gives us a Preview of Lester's 2025 Offense

While bowl's are more or less meaningless, we now get to have a glimpse of what could be with Lester's offensive plans going forward with life after Kaleb Johnson. We won't have a generational RB in the backfield, which may lead Lester to have an entirely new gameplan/scheme than what we've seen this year. Since Minnesota, we've more or less put every game on the back of KJ2.

The fact is, we have to embrace more passing to open up the run. With games like little debbie for example, they dared us to pass on every single down and keyed on the run. And without the B1G RB of the Year on the field, passing will be essential going forward. With a number of rumors for a new QB, as well as several WR targets, it's my belief that Lester will be implementing more passing than we saw this year.

Ribbon cutting to hell, Tampa, November 2025...

A dog-friendly cruise setting sail in November 2025 from Tampa is gearing up to insure a paw-fect experience for canine owners and lovers. Come for the non stop barking, stay for the poop covered decks...

Contributors on Reddit. com posted mixed reactions. “Cruises are already floating petri dishes. This doesn’t seem like a very good idea,” said one.

“Now all decks are poop decks,” said another.

A couple of posters worried about dogs going overboard.

One said, “sounds awesome if you like dogs,” while another chimed in, “Better than a gorilla-friendly cruise, I suppose.”

Who do you give presents/cash to for Christmas??

Not necessarily friends or family (feel free to discuss that as well if you’d like) but more “other” people in your life. Co-workers, garbage man, mailman, dentist, etc…. Any of you throw a bone or a tip ;) to anyone kind of random?

I ask because last week when I came from work and rounded up my trash cans from the street, I found a nice little card attached to one of the cans wishing me and my family happy holiday from our trash man, Christian. First thing I thought was “clever little ****er working it for some Christmas tips” as I don’t recall ever seeing this before. Wife said the same thing when she got home. Fast forward one week later and the next trash day and lo and behold, it worked. Two neighbors of mine had cards taped to their trash cans this morning. Now I am feeling obligated to do the same.

So, I ask again. Any of you give random people like this that you don’t really have a personal relationship with? If so, how much?

Home Security Camera Suggestions

Does anyone have any suggestions for a home security camera?

I don't want to pay a monthly subscription.....I would like to start w/ something simple that I can check on things while I'm away. Maybe 1 indoor and 1 outdoor w the possibility of adding on. Recording isn't really that important either. I'm not sure where to start. I see options all across the board I don't want to overbuy, but don't want junk either.....

Missed a huge opportunity

Prime time basketball. Big event with Tennessee and UCONN. Iowa's chance to show the nation they're a big time program even without Clark. WUFF!!

Not a big deal to lose, but Iowa just looked lost. It was embarrassing to watch them try and handle the basketball. Explain Iowa offense tonight? It wasn't even the full court pressure but the lazy passes in the half court that baffled me.

And where were the freshman in the second half? Could Jan have gone small on spurts to help handle the ball and get something going on offense? Seemed like she didn't make many adjustments.

"Spoiled" Food

Due to some poor planning, we had a ton of pie at Thanksgiving this year. Been working through it all and I just ate the last piece of it this afternoon. Had to pull a couple mold spores forming off the top of the crust, threw it in the microwave, put some ice cream on it. Good to go.

I've done stuff like this for forever. Never had any gastrointestinal repercussions.

People in my circle think I'm nuts. Am I?

Florida Prosecutor seeking to vacate 2600 convictions

from the late 1980s/early 1990s, for people who were convicted of buying crack cocaine in a police sting operation. The main catch - the crack was manufactured by the police because they had difficulty getting product to sell in their sting operation. Those arrested weren't busted for dealing, they were addicts who were buying for their own use; much of the time, the police held the sting sales at locations that were close enough to schools/playgrounds/churches or other spots where the charge would be a felony instead of a misdemeanor. The State Supreme Court ruled in 1993 that the police couldn't do this any more

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — A Florida prosecutor says he will seek to vacate as many as 2,600 convictions of people who bought crack cocaine manufactured by the Broward County Sheriff's Office for sting operations between 1988 and 1990.

The Florida Supreme Court ruled in 1993 that people couldn't be charged in cases where the sheriff's office made the crack cocaine and undercover deputies then sold it to buyers who were arrested and charged.

Broward County State Attorney Harold F. Pryor said Friday that while his office was reviewing old records, prosecutors realized that many people may still have criminal charges or convictions on their records because of the sting operation.

Side note, I've known Pryor since he was a little kid; used to play hoops with his dad & I coached him in a peewee basketball league. Nice young man.

“It is never too late to do the right thing,” Pryor said in a statement.
