Lara Trump to Step Down as R.N.C. Co-Chair Amid Florida Senate Speculation

Lara Trump, whose name has been floated to fill a possible Senate vacancy in Florida, is stepping down as co-chair of the Republican National Committee
Ms. Trump, who is President-elect Donald J. Trump’s daughter-in-law, made the announcement on Sunday in a post on X. She gave no indication as to her next move, but many Republican allies have lobbied for her to be appointed as the next senator from Florida, should Senator Marco Rubio’s seat become open.
“Serving as the GOP co-chair throughout the course of the most consequential election in American history has truly been the honor of my life,” Ms. Trump wrote. “The job I came to do is now complete and I intend to formally step down from the RNC at our next meeting.”
Deplorable:

A spokeswoman for the R.N.C. did not respond to a request for comment.
Ms. Trump was elected to her role in March, with Mr. Trump endorsing her rise. Last month, Mr. Trump picked Mr. Rubio to serve as secretary of state. If confirmed, Mr. Rubio would resign his Senate seat. Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida could then select Mr. Rubio’s replacement to serve through 2026, when a special election would be held for the final two year’s of his term.

Several Republicans, including Senator Rick Scott of Florida, have publicly supported Ms. Trump. In an interview with The Associated Press, Ms. Trump said she would strongly consider taking up Mr. Rubio’s position.
“It is something I would seriously consider,” she said in the interview. “If I’m being completely transparent, I don’t know exactly what that would look like.”
Mr. DeSantis, who endorsed Mr. Trump after his own presidential bid lost traction in the primary, said in November that he had begun vetting potential candidates. He added that he would probably make a selection by the beginning of January.
The Florida Senate seat would be up for election again in 2028.

Dave Parker and Dick Allen elected by the veterans committee to the HOF

I think they got it right this year. The Cobra was a helluva player. Allen was before my time, but his numbers warrant being added.
Incidentally, the 2025 class has at least one first ballot lock in Ichiro Suzuki. The balloting for the regular class will not be released for a few weeks.

Drake Rhodes

Cobe and Glazier got all the press for their transfer to SDSU, but Drake Rhodes is putting together an excellent season for them. Just took fifth at CKLV, beating Garvin in the 5th place match. He has tons of wins over ranked wrestlers already, some by bonus. He looks like a surefire NQ, and someone who can push for the stand at some point in the next three years. Very cool to see and I thought he deserved a shout out!

Alvarez & Snyder

Last nights debacle reignited the move or stay with KF debate. We all know Hayden probably stayed tad too long. Seen it with others like Paterno and Bowden. But thinking of Hayden end compare that to his 2 best OCs they knew when it was time to leave and put program over their self interest. Programs that they built from the ground that were in bad places.

Barry had the AD job lined and left the program in healthy place for big bert and others after. Snyder bit different coach after him struggled few season and he came back and kind of tried to pull a Kirk/Brian move and lobby to get his son the job, ST coach who was actually good at his job. But AD didn’t give in and Snyder graciously passed the torch to Klieman who he knew was a fantastic coach whose done a great job. I fear Kirk era will end more like Joepa and Hayden over Alvarez and Snyder.

Full List of Democrats Who Voted Against Expanding Social Security Benefits

While the House of Representatives approved the Social Security Fairness Act with a majority vote of 327 to 75, not all lawmakers supported the bill that will likely expand benefits for millions of Americans.

The bill received wide bipartisan support to get rid of the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO) Provision, which prevented Americans who also receive pensions and their spouses from getting the full Social Security benefits each month.

"This could mean slightly larger checks for many people who are struggling with the rising cost of living, particularly with grocery prices soaring," Kevin Thompson, a finance expert and the founder and CEO of 9i Capital Group, told Newsweek. "This change would provide some relief to retirees feeling the pinch of inflation."

Which Democrats voted against the Social Security Fairness Act?

While nearly all Democrats in the House supported the measure, four voted against the law in a rare stance against increasing benefits for Americans.

The group of Democrats who voted against the bill included the following Representatives: Lloyd Doggett of Texas, Steny Hoyer of Maryland, Henry "Hank" Johnson of Georgia, and John Larson of Connecticut.

University of Michigan Ends Required Diversity Statements

Critics view them as a form of compelled political speech that are often used to evade legal restrictions on affirmative action. In at least some instances, job candidates have been eliminated from consideration based solely on their diversity statements.
...

But a survey conducted for the committee found that more than half of Michigan faculty members believed diversity statements placed pressure on professors to express specific moral, political and social views.

Iowa Hawkeyes

We’ve seen enough of the Kirk Ferentz model to know that the Iowa Hawkeyes aren’t an attractive landing spot for top quarterback recruits, but that doesn’t mean they won’t try to land one.

The Hawkeyes are a consistently above-average football team without ever having a quarterback, which is the selling point. That being said, it’s career suicide if Moss has NFL aspirations unless he can break the cycle of bad Iowa QBs.

If Iowa can find the funding to coax a top transfer to Iowa City, the Hawkeyes are a real threat to compete for Big Ten championships. As it stands, the next talented quarterback transfer will be their first, and I’m in wait-and-see mode until someone finally decides to take the risk.
