Intermat article - why we should be worried about wrestling in the Olympics

The people saying that an event like Grapple on the Gridiron is not sustainable on a yearly basis weren't fans in this forum (well, they were saying it, too, but who cares what we think?) it was Luke Eustice and Tom Brands and the people who, you know, actually did the massive amount of work...

    Dumb question about season tickets

In the press release announcing the schedule, it said that season tickets this year are $75.

Flo has their Olympic credentials pulled by USOC

You think it's BS that a media company that paid money to buy the broadcast rights to and event, and who produced those broadcasts at their own expense don't just let anyone who wants to put it on their own website and charge their customers to watch, without paying the original rights-holder...

A thousand times this. I work with college students every day. Parents are doing their children absolutely no favors by trying to smooth out every bump in the road for them and helping them avoid the consequences that come from their actions. I know the majority of those parents do it with the...

    Ryan Taylor - Done

He's what, 21? 22? So a hip replacement that lasts 20 years will get him to 42, maybe? And another one will get him to 60? And a third will be needed to get him into old age? Matthew Squire is an orthopedic surgeon at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The article I link below includes this...

Unclutch your pearls, Wilma. No one in this thread is "enjoying his pain". And unless someone else wrote that first post of yours that I responded to, you most certainly did ask people to write letters of support for him.

    Ryan Taylor - Done

Agreed. As someone who needs a hip replacement myself, the reason they are reluctant to perform them on young patients (and I'm talking less than 60 years old) is that they only last 10-15 years before they wear out and need to be replaced again. And each successive replacement carries its own...

You want us to cut the speculation, the conjecture, and the rationalizations, huh? But you also want us to write a letter of support for J.Rob despite not actually knowing any of the facts of the case. Seems to me having "little doubt that this intentions were honorable" is baseless speculation...

    Russia out

No. Only the track and field team has been banned by the international track and field association (IAAF), but the IOC could overturn the ban. As for the ban extending to other sports, the story I linked below quotes the IOC president as saying if other Russian sports organizations were proved...

    Olympics in Danger

A friend of mine has had Zika, contracted on a visit to Guatemala. He's a man; it was a minor rash and fever, no big deal. Pregnant women, women who are trying to become pregnant, men who are trying impregnate their wives in the near future, have much more cause for concern. If you don't fall...

    Olympics in Danger

Well hell, if you're going to get all tinfoil-hat about it, the scientists who originally made the link between the Zika virus and birth defects could have been wrong. That's a strange hill to take your stand on, but perhaps you can supply specific instances when the CDC has been proven wrong...

They have. They recommend pregnant women not attend; they do not recommend canceling or moving the Games. http://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2016/s0226-summer-olympic-games.html

    Olympics in Danger

Complicating matters is the fact that the World Health Organization has said that canceling the Olympics would not appreciably halt the spread of the zika virus worldwide. That's a big gun in favor of the Games.

U of M wrestling under investigation

The two bolded sentences are in direct contradiction to each other. If we don't know what's really going on, how do you know it's not as bad as what's being reported?

    Brewer to NLWC

However, Bill Zadick was not training with the HWC in 2006, if that is what the question was getting at. He was at the OTC. Mike was in Iowa City. I don't know about Joe Williams.

    Brewer to NLWC

Well, apparently in the not-distant past there were current HWC wrestler(s) who didn't even want former Hawkeyes as competition, let alone outsiders. Maybe now that obstacle is removed, you might see the HWC open up, unless other HWC members feel the same way as the one who just left.
