From the Minneapolis Star Tribune (http://www.startribune.com/gophers-blown-out-again-by-northwestern/367767991/)

Minnesota lost Thursday night to Northwestern, 82-58. Coach Richard Pitino felt a rematch with Northwestern would provide a new result after getting drubbed by 25 points at home last month. it didn't.

The Gophers (6-17, 0-11 Big Ten) have dropped 11 consecutive conference games, five short of the program record set in 1987. They are off to their worst start in Big Ten play since the 1922-23 team also started 0-11. It’s the first time the Gophers have been swept by Northwestern since 2006, and combined with a 25-point loss at Williams Arena last month, it’s their worst back-to-back losses to the Wildcats in series history.

This is year 3 of the Little RIcky era. Will there be a year 4?

I'm happy they are 0-11 in conference play, but I don't think this team is as bad as Rutgers, nor do I think they deserve that bad of a record. From the times I've watched Minnesota play (against MSU and at Indiana) I thought they were decent, but for whatever reason they haven't gotten a win yet. Let me end by saying I'm confident Iowa can beat them anywhere, but I'm glad Iowa doesn't have to go up to their place to face a hostile crowd and a team that has nothing left to lose.

Little Rick was hired by Minnesota due to his last name.
He was too young to have any valid experience and
good track record as a head coach. Now the fans will
have to endure the mistake of an over zealous Minnesota
Athletic Director who dumped Tubby Smith for nothing.

And Shades of canning Tom Davis.

Some of you have amazing hindsight. Why do some of you have to keep going back to Tom Davis not getting his contract renewed ?
You realize that Tom could still be coaching at Iowa and we wouldn't be experiencing this year.
Tom likes to golf and not recruit . Nice man , average coach. Each year was the same. 20 and 10 , 9 and 9 in the conference and lose in the second round of NCAA.
Some people aspire for more.

Rutgers won't lose to Minnesota, either. I've watched both Rutgers and Minnesota play several times, and Rutgers at least plays hard. Minnesota looks like the stars of The Walking Dead. Even if Iowa had to play up there, this is a game where there is no possible way they can lose. Minnesota is one of the worst teams in the country, if not THE worst.

Dr. Tom was an excellent coach, so-so recruiter. Guy won almost 600 games and got us to the NCAA's most years. Harsh. Not like his recruiting was awful: Ray Thompson, Acie Earl, Val Barnes, Chris Street, Kenyon Murray, Jess Settles, Andre Woolridge, Ricky Davis, Dean Oliver, Joey Range, Chris Kingsbury, to name several. Some pretty talented players there.

The same man who decided not to bring back Tom Davis was the same one who brought us Steve Alford.. Not a great string of decisions there with the men's basketball program, and only in the past couple of years have we FINALLY recovered from that move to get to the "next level".

I felt at the time that it was a mistake canning Tubby unless they had something better lined up, but that obviously was not the case.

Richard Pitino = dead man walking.

While on the topic of the state of Minnesota, Fran was up there last night to see 2019 Matthew Hurt. He's supposed to be the real deal in a few years. But his brother is going to Minny so that might be an uphill battle.

It's crazy to think that its taken 3 coaching hires (Alford, Lick, Fran) and 17 years to reach that "next level"

Would most of you agree that after year 3 of Lick, there was a chance the program would never make it back to where it was under the Davis years (at minimum)?

You would think with a couple years of this crap they are having and he won't even look at Minnesota. Plus if he's the real deal the Dukes and Kentucky's will come calling.

I hope Little P gets to keep his job up there for atleast another year, then they can fire him and the talent pool with be dry plus they will have to deal with their losing rep of the last few years. I think they thought they could get the hot name and all of a sudden all the talent from the twin cities would just stay home and he would have them rolling again, not so fast my friend.

Well least little dicky Pitino can go watch his daddy's team play in the ncaa tourney....oh wait forget his classy father's team can't play this year cause of the escorts they brought in for players and recruits. Well least they can make arrangements to go watch the final 4 together.

Would love to see Minnie go 0-18 meaning Rutgers get at least 2 wins. How soon before Minnie starts to mail it in.

If/when they hire an AD... there will be lots of pressure on both MBB coach and the AD to get things turned around. I think the jury is still out on Claeys as a HC. With your two big $$$ generators struggling, that's a lot of pressure that's going to be coming from the boosters.

The Gopher fan support has never been great. They might be really close to falling into oblivion again. Too bad.... NOT!

It's going to be a sad day for most B1G fans when Pitino leaves.
According to B10 broadcasters, they have a great bunch of freshmen now playing, & will have good transfers/recruits next year. But I think they said the same about Knebby & Miles.

Having lived through the Ralph Miller and Lute Olsen days, I always believed that Iowa basketball could be good again. It took three hires after Dr. Tom, but we are back and the future looks bright. Just think, this year we may have more wins in the BIG than Lick had in three years. Our recruiting looks good going forward as well. It is a great time to be a Hawkeye basketball fan again.

Its sad, isn't it, that in 3 years Lick won just 15 conference games?

Little Ricky isn't far behind; so far in his 3 yeas, he has won 14 conference games.

pitino, and minny fans, must be pinning all their hopes on the incoming recruiting class. If pitino isn't canned after this debacle of a season.

D. Tom's last 4 years
4TH lost to #5 Wake Forest in the dance
2ND lost to #3 Arizona in the dance
5TH lost to #1 Kentucky
3RD lost to #1 UConn
that was really a pathetic stretch that you and another poster were upset with

he also lost to Duke twice when Duke was #1 and then #2, losing to a Arizona team that was #1, these teams rankings were the seeds in the dance.

DR. Tom was coaching against these Knight of Indiana, Henson of Illinois, Keady of Purdue, Heathcote of MSU, Freider of Michigan with the best players money could buy, he rest escapes me, but when Davis was the coach the BT played everybody twice as there were only 10 teams in the conference.

fans got exactly what they deserved in SA and finally Lick, so yeah bring up Tom Davis is a very good point.

you and the other have way to high expectations for a coach that coaches in the BT, this is not the MVC OR THE MAC, nor is it the Horizon league that Bulter used to be a part of, Gonzaga is in the West Coast Conference, these are conference that 1 or 2 teams can dominate year in and year out. the BT HAS in any given year 4-5 teams that can compete for the Title, and another

Actually it's taken 3 coaching hires and 17 years to get back to the "same level". While I think Fran could well be a "next level" kind of guy, we're not quite there yet.

has Minnesota ever gone 0-18 in the BT? I only ask as the season goes along they could be that team that upsets someone nobody expects, just like Rutgers last year when the upset Wisconsin. sorry but with the talent that Wisconsin had last year they should not have lost to Rutgers.

this is why I am glad IA gets them @ home and not at their place.

Kaminsky didn't play vs Rutgers and starting pg left game with an injury. If Iowa didn't have uthoff and gessel left game mid way through vs Rutgers not a given we win this year.

Hope Iowa can take advantage of theGophers woes and grab some top minny recruits.....state usually has some bb talent.

I say give the man a raise!! :)

Good chance we have more b1g wins this year that he'll have in 3 years.
They did! Last year after not producing with experienced players. With their AD position up in the air I see them holding on to lil r for another season.

That's because we were always a 7,8, or 9 seed in the NCAA every year. I'm not sure how good you are at math, but when you get those kinds of seeds consistently, you are bound to play quite a few #1 and #2 seeds in the 2nd round.

There can be good arguments made on both sides of the Davis situation. Let's stop acting like it was a slam dunk either way. Like many Nebraska fans have said after the Riley hire, just because an incorrect hire was made, doesn't mean that the right thing wasn't for Pelini (Dr. Tom) to move on anyway.

Sometimes it's just time to move on. Every coaching regime has to end at some point.

Wisco had at least 1, if not 2, key players out for that game.
